Summary: Assembles mechanical units, fabricated parts/components and/or electrical/electronic systems to make subassemblies, assemblies or complete units using hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures and miscellaneous equipment. Fits, aligns, calibrates and adjusts parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating requirements; repairs units or products that have failed to meet requirements. Major Position Responsibilities Operates and maintains stations to assemble, align, and adjust fabricated parts, components, or units according to specifications and follows established manufacturing procedures Uses hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing assembly line equipment to assemble units Tests and calibrates parts and mechanisms to ensure all components meet tolerances, product specifications, and quality standards May repair or refit parts or units that fail tests or tolerance levels Keeps daily assembly production records Maintains a clean and organized work environment May assist with training other assemblers Basic Qualifications Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED OR vocational/technical training degree 7-8 years experience Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds May need to stand for long periods of time Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery May be requested to work a different shift This position is Safety Sensitive Other job-specific working conditions: Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Looks for ways to improve and promote quality Works within the highest level of integrity, ethics and safety Operates under minimal direction and exercises moderate to independent judgment Decisions are guided by policy, procedures and business plan Assembly Calibration Component installation Soldering Troubleshooting Functional testing Ability to understand and follow directions Ability to lift/move heavy objects Physical stamina The above statements describe the general nature and level of work only.
