S&P Global Managing Director, Sector Lead for Americas Public Finance - Housing in Boulder, Colorado

The Team: The Americas Public Finance Ratings department has an opportunity for a Sector Lead role covering the U.S. affordable housing sector, including state housing finance agencies, social housing providers including public housing authorities, community development financial institutions (CDFIs), rental housing bonds, military housing, federally enhanced housing ratings, and other housing sub-sectors. The role will encompass analytical leadership and market engagement for the U.S. team.
The Role/Impact: The Housing team Sector Lead will role model analytical excellence in the affordable housing industry and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills for internal and external audiences to deliver our credit story and rating opinions. The Sector Lead will provide analytical leadership, maintain a sharp internal focus on risk and consistency, and demonstrate an external focus on outreach and education for the affordable housing sector. The ability to represent S&P Global Ratings in a highly professional manner externally to industry issuers and investors is a must. Our Sector Lead will be required to initiate, organize, prepare, and lead meetings with senior management teams and the investment community. This candidate will be expected to identify and prioritize risk in a timely manner and seek out opportunities for continuous improvement for analytical and outreach efforts. The Sector Lead will enhance the team’s analytical and industry expertise and visibility internally and externally. They must be fluent in relevant methodologies, internal governance, and rating processes. The candidate must be able to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and teams internally including the Head of the Practice and Chief Analytical Officer, methodologies, models, and other analytical teams in Americas Public Finance and across Ratings. The successful candidate will have an established track record in credit analysis, research, networking, outreach, and execution capabilities.
Responsibilities:
Internal
• Direct analytical coverage of credits within the U.S. affordable housing space, including identifying credit risk in a timely manner and meeting with issuers
• Perform credit analysis by understanding and identifying key factors that affect issue and issuer credit ratings on complex housing credits
• Chair and vote on rating committees for housing credits, particularly for complex and high profile issuers
• Effectively lead special projects/tasks (criteria, regulatory, analytical, education, planning, etc.)
• Mentor and develop junior talent, including sharing knowledge and skills with analysts and supporting analysts in interacting with external parties
• Collaborate with the team’s Analytical Manager in leading the housing team in order to foster a risk mindset, collaborative culture, and analytical excellence in a positive inclusive environment
External
• Have ownership of the team’s delivery of analytical insights to external audiences, investors, intermediaries, and issuers, including developing market engagement plans
• Provide proactive outreach and research to the market
• Work collaboratively with other sector lead analysts and practices on analytical issues, and develop cross practice, cross-department, and global analytic research and commentary on relevant sector and credit themes
• Act as spokesperson externally for the team, representing and communicating S&P analytical thought leadership, credit stories, and criteria through publications, conferences, presentations, and media
• Initiate, organize, and execute meetings/calls with investors and intermediaries to provide analytical education and gather feedback
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $152,600 to $250,000 Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.
Qualifications:
• Advanced analytical skills in the U.S. affordable housing industry, demonstrated by 10+ years of experience and an ability to think critically and independently
• Strong expertise in analytical leadership, research, problem-solving, and critical thinking
• Strong communication skills and market knowledge to build-on and manage relationships with key investors, issuers, and intermediaries, and develop new relationships as part of market outreach activities
• Demonstrated strength of understanding of S&P Global Ratings analytical methodologies
• Aptitude for coaching and providing meaningful mentorship
• Strong interpersonal and organizational management skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and execute on key tasks
• Strategic and change-ready mindset with an ability to envision, deliver, and adapt long term goals
• Willingness to travel domestically
• Graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field, and/or CFA preferred.
