Job Description Summary:UCAR is excited to announce the job opening for the NRIT Systems Administrator I role. This position will be responsible for helping to ensure consistent and reliable operation of NRIT computing environments and will work with a team responsible for the installation, deployment, maintenance, administration, troubleshooting, and enhancement of Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Apple Macintosh workstation computers. Additionally, the Systems Administrator I will respond to end-user requests for assistance as a subject matter expert on platform/discipline-focused (SME) teams determined by need and through consultation with NCAR Research IT (NRIT) leadership. Key Responsibilities Technical Troubleshooting, End-User Support, & Education

Provide in-person, online, and telephone support to end users of hardware, software, and services to troubleshoot and resolve bugs, errors, failures, outages, and access issues reported through ServiceDesk and other channels.

Collaborate with technical staff outside of NRIT (network engineers, multimedia support staff, et al.) as necessary to resolve issues.

Provide ad-hoc user education in the use of NRIT-managed hardware, software, and services.

Create and maintain technical documentation for end users and other systems administrators.

Attend check-ins, technology demonstrations, and other meetings coordinated within NRIT.

Attend workshops and training sessions to maintain up-to-date knowledge of system administration techniques and best practices, cybersecurity policies, industry trends, and mitigation techniques to develop new skills and areas of expertise.

Systems Maintenance & Optimization

Assist with hardware and software lifecycle management and the maintenance of inventory lists.

Assist users in defining and implementing special applications and hardware requirements.

Perform problem-solving research on hardware and software products to improve end-user computing and systems administration tasks, and make recommendations on solutions and best practices.
