Position Details

General Statement

Sports Facilities (%20http://brickbreeden.com/) is responsible for the management of all athletic/sports facilities at Montana State University including the 8,000 seat Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, the 20,000 seat Bobcat Stadium, Shroyer Gymnasium, the Bobcat Tennis Center, 7th & Kagy fields, and the outdoor track. These facilities are multi-purpose and meet the varied needs of the campus and the community. The department provides services for Athletics, Campus Recreation, and Health and Human Development, as well as hosting many events/concerts that come to campus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Custodial Supervisor II serves as part of the Sports Facilities management team and ensures the on-site supervision and coordination of custodial activities for Sports Facilities buildings. This working manager position has duties including:

  • Oversees the work and activities of the custodial staff to ensure assignments are completed in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.

  • Directly supervises (hires, schedules, trains etc) the custodial team of 7 full-time staff, 3 part-time, staff 5-10 student staff, and up to 50 temporary staff/student club members during large events or athletic games.

  • Ensures the appropriate numbers of staff are scheduled on regular work days and for events.

  • Maintains and has a working knowledge of all equipment and infrastructure necessary to clean a multi-use facilities including.

  • Maintains chemical and equipment inventory control and makes purchases as necessary.

  • Develops and implements standard operating procedures and conducts regular quality inspections.

  • Researches industry innovations and forecasts needs of facilities and users.

  • Troubleshoots and solves building/facility issues.

  • Effectively manages staff overtime during busy periods.

  • Actively participates during set-up and tear-down of athletic events, concerts/shows, and meeting room set-ups and turn-a-rounds for all other types of events as needed.

  • Works as part of the management team on short and long range planning.

  • And actively participates as part of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Substantial experience supervising custodial and/or light maintenance activities in a commercial, institutional, athletic facilities, or similar settings or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Progressively responsible experience training and supervising staff.

  • Proficient experience using computers and various software packages.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures utilized while conducting custodial work.

  • Proficient experience with inventory control.

  • Extensive customer service experience dealing effectively and diplomatically with a variety of people.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Certifications/Classes related to custodial, sanitation, building maintenance etc.

  • Graveyard/nighttime shift experience.

  • Experience enforcing building and security regulations.

  • Experience with special event preparations and/or clean up.

  • Will work outside in inclement weather.

  • Will work evenings, weekends, long hours, consecutive days during busy periods, and occasional holidays as the event schedule demands.

  • Required to wear safety gear as needed.

  • Regular exposure to cleaning solutions.

  • Routinely move items weighing up to 50-75lbs, and occasionally up to 100lbs.

  • Move about or traverse facilities and fields for long periods of time.

  • Push, pull, bend, crawl; grip handles on cleaning equipment; move up and down stairs; go up and down a step ladder; and be comfortable working at heights.

  • Occasionally will plow/shovel snow.

  • Drive both manual and automatic shift vehicles.
