Job Summary and Qualifications
Responsible for gathering diagnostic information through the use of radioactive materials administered intravenously; sophisticated radiation detecting, processing and imaging equipment and providing radioactive materials for use by physicians. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies and procedures while also promoting optimal unit operations. The Nuc Med Tech adheres to the SDHC ICARE values standards while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment.
Responsibilities for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Performs Nuclear Medicine exams in accordance with SDMC CVIC protocols.
Administers prescribed pharmaceutical grade radioactive materials to patients as outlined by state/federal regulations.
Demonstrates appropriate radioactive materials safety measures for self, other staff and patients as outlined by state/federal regulations.
Explains procedures to patients prior to exam.
Demonstrate proficiency with equipment used for NM exams (Spect Cameras, PET, and PACS).
Ensure availability of physician for procedures requiring the administration of medications and supervision.
Perform duties to maintain department functions such as QC checks.
Maintains required documentation regarding radioactive materials, both upon receipt and prior to administration.
Perform surveys and documents findings of work area, patient rooms, and radioactive waste storage area at appropriately scheduled intervals.
Enters procedure charges to patient accounts prior to end of scheduled shift.
Coordinates outpatient exams with patient assigned Physician or extenders.
Coordinates scheduled procedures with radioactive materials and supplies.
Adheres to policies related to Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Radiation Safety guidelines as described by TDHS and Joint Commission.
Works with Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining quality control and quality assurance guidelines to ensure all regulatory standards are met, i.e., Texas Dept. of Health and Bureau of Radiation Control.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned to support departmental functions.
Qualifications for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Associate Degree and graduation from a Nuclear Medicine Program (NMTCB) and/or ARRT (N)
Preferred: At minimum 1 year experience as a NM Technologist
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES :
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT (N))ORa Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
State Regulated Radiological Tech or Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT) through the Texas Medical Board
Current certification for BLS Healthcare Provider required as per St. David’s HealthCare policy.
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
