JOB SUMMARY
The Designer III will have advanced understanding of Telecom Design and AutoCAD with working knowledge for engineering tasks. The Designer III is primarily a civil based AutoCAD design position and will directly involve the design and drafting of outside plant cable plans, both aerial and underground. This Designer III will also require advanced knowledge or experience of local city and county design standards for the purposes of obtaining excavation permits and any necessary temporary traffic control designs to complete the work as designed.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Create permit drawings in accordance with local municipal rules.
Conduct utility research using tools such as Google Earth, various GIS Software from the municipalities, and any information gathered from Fielding department.
Collaborate with other departments (Engineering and Aerial) to effectively design fiber optic networks for various client’s needs.
Review and revise redlines on your own, without supervision, as needed according to any internal or external comments without any errors.
Create and revise civil drawings within public right-of-way or per agency requirements.
Research building data, state, and local code requirements, and interpret survey data for accuracy and verification of project
Design site-specific and typical traffic control plans in accordance with each state.
Understand and explain Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH), and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards as needed per state.
Understand 3GIS Knowledge and is familiar with public utility infrastructure and telecommunications networks.
Creates cable maps and maintains fiber integrity in accordance with client standards while using systems.
Planning routes and analyzing High-Level Design
Identifies and communicates barriers to productivity success, continuously focused on building sustainable processes.
Identify and resolve failed processes, wrong CAD templates, broken code/data transfers etc.
May perform QC to assist with project deliverables
Working overtime may be required as needed to meet client deadlines
Perform all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2+ years AutoCAD experience
Advanced in AutoCAD, base-mapping, fundamental knowledge of running line, conduit, cable design fiber optics, manholes, and hand holes
A deep understanding/experience in the Outside Plant telecom industry, public right-of-way, private easements, existing utilities such as water, sewer, electric, gas, and other underground and aerial utilities Strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Word)
Knowledgeable in city, county, and local municipalities encroachment permits, Traffic Control and specialty permits (e.g., UPRR, Caltrans, etc.), easement right away and various environmental permits are highly desired
Works efficiently and with accuracy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
