Manager, Cost Accounting / Assistant Controller

We are looking for Manager, Cost Accounting/Assistant Controller to join our team in Brecksville!

You will be managing the activities of the cost accounting function including supervision of the team, control and analysis of standard costs, reporting of variances, and the valuation of inventory and also monitoring costs through reporting analysis of cost and inventory data.

Your Challenge:

  • Foster and drive collaborative teamwork environment and engagement within Accounting Team and Farris Operation Departments (Engineering, Business Development, etc.)

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, and procedures for Cost Accounting Department. (20%)

  • Oversee the gathering of historical cost data, investigation of cost structures, pricing of new services or products, and preparation of budget versus actual expense reports. (20%)

  • Ensure that costs are allocated according to established procedures. (20%)

  • Design, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. (20%)

  • Manage the cost accounting staff to complete projects. Ensure that company policies are followed regarding financial reporting requirements. (20%)

  • Detailed, direct work of cost accounting and inventory analysis and reporting.

  • Prepare month end journal entries, maintain, and reconcile ledger accounts, determine inventory reserve requirements.

  • Monthly forecasting and review of inventory reserves and manufacturing operational variances.

  • Prepare monthly cost and inventory report statements and inventory analysis and forecasting.

  • Support Weekly Estimate P&L review (standard cost, mfg. variances, scrap reporting, etc.).

  • Monthly management and reporting of Capital and Freight Spending.

  • Market Improvements (M.I.) monthly reported cost savings verification.

  • Monthly Review Meetings with Operations, Engineering and Supply Chain.

  • Lead and or support annual Farris Group physical inventories that include on-site implementation (Canada, U.K., China, and US).

  • Annual Cost Roll coordination, preparation, and implementation of standard cost rates.

  • Support daily Cycle Count Program, including collaboration with Operations and Warehouse staff to ensure accurate inventory values.

  • Annual Budget and Monthly Forecasting preparation and reporting.

  • Determination and review of internal controls and SOX requirements related to cost and inventory.

  • Other ad hoc and special reporting related to financial reporting, cost, and inventory.

  • Lead and or support both Internal and External Audit requirements.

  • Account Reconciliation preparation and reporting submission.

Your Expertise:

  • 8+ years of Cost Accounting experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance ​required

  • Professional certification preferred

  • Managerial experience / Proven ability to manage and mentor a team of cost accountants.

  • Multi currency knowledge and global experience is required

  • Ability to manage projects, deadlines, and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • Deep understanding of cost accounting principles, including cost allocation, variance analysis, budgeting, and cost control.

  • Global experience a plus, but not required
