Summary:

The Vice President, Oncology is responsible for planning and managing the human, material, equipment, and fiscal resources for areas of responsibility and accountable for developing action plans to contribute to the organization’s ability to carry out its mission and accomplish annual pillar goals. Specifically responsible for the overall growth and performance of the oncology service line for NLHS and the operational responsibility for the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute. The service line includes medical oncology, radiation oncology, pediatric oncology, infusion & wound care clinic, cancer registry, cancer research, breast health, rheumatology and supporting services. The Vice President will exercise management responsibility ensuring efficient services that are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, the public and staff that work in alignment with other areas of Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Northern Light Health System. The Vice President will work closely with physicians and other professionals to enhance service delivery to patients in the continuum of care.

The Vice President is responsible to oversee the development, growth and integration of services that bring the various multidisciplinary specialties and departments in NLH member organizations into an effective operational and care continuum that matches the episode of care experienced by the patients. The Vice President will develop related programs and formal affiliations that keep the Oncology Service Line positioned in the forefront of care delivery in a financially responsible manner. The Vice President is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing aspects of the annual budget of LFCI in conjunction with the EMMC VP of Finance and EMMC Sr. Physician Executive. The Vice President works in conjunction with the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure that services are in compliance with all federal, state, funding, and city regulations, certifications, and licensing requirements. Accountable for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Relationship with Northern Light Health.

The Vice President develops working relationships with the President of the Medical Staff, Medical Group and other key members of the medical staff. A responsibility of this position is to support the organization of an effective performance improvement program comprising the relevant working groups, specific assignments and accountabilities, work plans, schedules, deadlines, and regular reporting expectations with appropriate parties, both internal and external.

Accountable for agreed-upon targets in volume, financial margin, quality and patient satisfaction.

Provide leadership and direction to the Oncology Service Line including the care management program, patient education, community outreach for cancer services and philanthropy.

Responsibilities:

  1. GENERAL MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions are identified by an asterisk A. Responsible for safety* 1. Promotes open and non-punitive communication between healthcare workers, patients and families regarding clinical and environmental safety. * 2. Promotes employee and non-employee healthcare workers to report and directly address patient and environmental safety concerns. * 3. Holds subordinate leaders accountable for accident/injury prevention and investigation including root cause analysis, as well as assisting in the return of injured workers to gainful employment. * B. Maintains excellence in customer services through measurement and improvement action plans. * C. Ensures the efficient and effective operations of processes in the delivery of service/care for areas of responsibility. * D. Accountable for budgeting and meeting financial targets. * E. Monitors compliance with legal and accrediting requirements related to areas of responsibility functions and services. * F. Engages staff in providing and improving service delivery. * G.   2. EMMC SPECIFIC MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Oversees day to day operations of responsible departments

B. Establishes and maintains an inter-regional oncology strategy with member and non-member organizations endorsed by medical group leadership and leadership council C. Establishes and maintains a long-term sustainable and productive oncology strategyD. Coordinates facility and program planning budget preparation, administering hospital policy formulation. E. Maintain and grow community and donor relationships. F. Works with management team and medical leadership across the organization to establish communication pathways and support overall medical center initiatives as well as LFCI initiatives. G. Works with the management team and medical leadership, serving as a resource to help reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives, analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions. H. Facilitates and is a resource for the implementation of the performance improvement plan, achieving established outcomes. I. Partners with physicians and develops effective working relationships with the CMO, President of Medical Group, President of the Medical Staff and other key members of the medical staff to organize an effective performance improvement program supporting strategic and operational initiatives. J. Supports the coordination of the work of consultants engaged in performance improvement and assists them in implementation of recommendations. K. Works with department managers as a mentor, educator and counselor to foster change and assist them in the implementation of recommendations. L. Develop and foster effective collaboration between clinical departments, divisions, medical staff leadership, hospital staff and other affiliated services (inside and outside of the hospital) to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the hospital’s goals and objectives. M. Analyzes areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities. N. Manages costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and takes action to eliminate non-value costs in conjunction with the hospital’s financial and nursing officers. O. Participates in the hospital’s monthly operation reviews as well as participating in corporate office meetings as deemed necessary.

Education
