WSP USA Senior / Principal Pavement Engineer in Bristol, United Kingdom

The WSP Pavement Engineering team is seeking a Principal / Senior Pavement Engineer to be part of this established and experienced team working on exciting large-scale projects. Due to recent successes the team is growing and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate seeking new and exciting opportunities.

The successful candidate will form part of an existing team to deliver pavement design and maintenance projects for a number of clients both in the UK and overseas and will assist the engineering team to develop and deliver projects through various stages of design from feasibility / option studies to detailed design and onto construction. You will be responsible for leading the pavement design and maintenance projects throughout entire project lifecycle with support of the discipline lead.

Role & Responsibilities:

The candidate will be required to:

  • Deliver pavement projects, including investigation reports, design projects and site supervision.

  • Ensuring that delivery is achieved in accordance with the company's management systems including Health and Safety, project and risk management.

  • Lead a team of Engineers, provide technical support, advice and mentorship.

  • Supporting managers with provision of information on the technical performance of staff for performance appraisal purposes.

  • Supporting in developing and enhancing client relationships.

  • Manage fieldwork projects including commercial and health and safety requirements.

  • Perform road and airfield pavement inspections and report treatment recommendations

  • Lead pavement analysis, design, specification and reporting.

  • Review, implement and contribute to the development of asset management policy for pavement and other related assets.

  • Develop lifecycle plans to contribute to successful asset management, operations and maintenance to road operators.

  • Provide commercial guidance when developing proposals and in the delivery of projects.

  • Implement the technical quality requirements, address the project brief and meet client deadlines.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

The current team is diverse and well respected across the industry therefore the candidate is required to have sound technical abilities to help enhance and grow the team.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in Pavement Engineering field and ideally be a member of an appropriate professional engineering institution.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Technical background: Experience working within Pavement Engineering discipline or hold BEng / BSc in Civil Engineering

  • Knowledge of pavement engineering demonstrated by experience of pavement design, investigation and research.

  • Knowledge and/or experience of road and airfield pavement engineering projects.

  • Knowledge and/or experience of UK pavement design methodologies and contract documentation, including MCHW.

  • Ability to understand the scope and limits of responsibility between various engineering disciplines and project support groups.

  • Experience of pavement investigation projects for maintenance design and failure investigation

  • Knowledge of materials behaviour underlying standard specifications.

  • Knowledge of Asset Management principals and the ability to understand / improve them.

  • Knowledge of roads operation, maintenance and renewal practices.

  • Working knowledge of the preparation of proposals and communication with clients.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant qualification.

  • Chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE, CIHT or similar) is an advantage.

  • Experience of international airfield and road standards is an advantage.

  • Experience of non-DMRB pavement design is an advantage.
