We are actively seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our agile Life Science - Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry R&D department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your experience and expertise in developing mechanical components for mass spectrometers. You will be responsible for leading all aspects of the entire process, starting from the conception of ideas for the design phase, to the creation of production documentation.

A day in the Life:

You will design and develop complex mechanical parts, including assemblies for high vacuum and ion optical parts. You will work alongside highly motivated, multinational and interdisciplinary teams.

Your responsibilities will include actively participating in product development and project planning ensuring that your expertise is used in the decision-making process. Additionally, you will play a key role in preparing production documentation and test procedures guaranteeing a seamless and transparent transfer to series production.

Your expertise will be essential in the installation and testing of developed mechanical parts on mass spectrometers. As an Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to engage in on-the-bench and in-system design verification to ensure the quality and functionality of the products.

You will also be involved in the calculation of product and process costs contributing to effective decision-making. Your technical support will extend to suppliers, assisting in their qualification process.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will also support Engineering Change Orders and Quality Control during product commercialization phase. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will be essential in ensuring the success of our products.

Keys to Success:

  • University degree in mechanical engineering, or related fields.

  • 5+ years of professional experience of designing high quality mechanical parts and assemblies, as part of complicated multi-component systems.

  • Have a solid understanding of Product Development Practices, Processes and Tools, preferably in the context of sophisticated analytical instruments.

  • Proven Extensive experience in 3-D solid modeling; SolidWorks preferred.

  • Showcase experience in working with low volume, high-value large complex systems such as scientific instrumentation, medical devices, or semiconductor process systems with the ability to handle complex projects and contribute to the success of high-value products.

  • Strong mechanical engineering background with in-depth knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and materials.

  • Experience in ‘should cost’ analysis of mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Work in a cost-conscious, effective, and autonomous manner, demonstrating the ability to drive efficiency, achieve goals, and make strategic decisions that consider cost-effectiveness.

  • Embrace a growth mindset, demonstrating a willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously improve in order to drive innovation and success in product development.

  • Effective open collaboration and communication with diverse teams and leadership.

  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English language.

  • Knowledge of German language is an advantage.

  • Good knowledge of Windows and Office programs.
