New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.

THE ROLE

Our mission is to ensure that all students have viable pathways to high school graduation, a two-year, four-year degree, or trade certification. We believe that completing one or more of these pathways will ensure entry into a meaningful career.

New York Edge is seeking a passionate, mission-driven team-builder to fill the role of Program Director for the DYCD Learn & Earn program. In this full-time role, you will have overall accountability for the growth, quality and success of the assigned program operation, its students, and staff. The primary responsibility of the Program Director is to manage the day-to-day operations in order to ensure that New York Edge quality standards and guidelines are met and that the program is meeting all contract requirements.

Supported by funding from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Learn & Earn Program offers high school juniors and seniors training in work readiness skills, college access support, leadership development, and summer internship/employment opportunities. This program equips young people with the necessary experience and skills for a successful transition to adulthood.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement a work readiness program for high school students that

  • Oversees program staff, program operations, services, and the implementation of program and administrative deliverables to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Department of Youth and Community Development

  • Connect students, caregivers, and site staff, to college and career resources

  • Hire, develop, and support program staff

  • Manage strategic partnerships with colleges, trade schools, and the business community

  • Collaborate with the Director of College & Career Readiness and New York Edge Curriculum and Training departments to develop and implement professional development workshops

  • Collaborate with the principal and school administration on program delivery to align with goals in relation to student achievement and performance

  • Monitors and ensures all program compliance, including but not limited to, student registration, staff documents, attendance tracking, etc.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the program

    Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum 4-year college degree and relevant experience; or a 2-year degree and 5 years of relevant experience

  • Experience providing pre-collegiate and career support to school-aged populations

  • Experience managing college and corporate partnerships

  • Strong understanding of higher education, financial aid, and career success

  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills

  • Experience working with student populations similar to those served by New York Edge

  • An unwavering belief that all students can be successful
