Adjunct Lecturer or Adjunct Assistant Professor - African American Studies

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering 58 associate and bachelor’s degree programs.

The African American Studies Department at City Tech seeks instructors for courses in Black Theater, African Art/Art and Architecture of Africa for the Spring 2025 and/or Fall 2025 semesters. Black Theater is designed to provide students with an understanding of African American dramatic literature across the decades, while courses in African Art provide an introduction to the historical study of the arts produced by the indigenous people of Africa.

QUALIFICATIONS

For appointment as an adjunct lecturer, a minimum of a bachelors degree in the field is required, with a master’s degree preferred; for adjunct assistant professor, a Ph.D. or equivalent is required. Preference will be given to applicants with prior college-level teaching experience within the same discipline.

As Black Theater is a lecture-discussion-based course, the instructor must also be prepared to demonstrate their knowledge of and ability to teach the history of key Black theater institutions, movements, and playwrights and their approaches within the discipline. Applicants must be prepared to teach a blended section of both college and high school students. An interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning is expected.

COMPENSATION

Adjunct Lecturer: $91.67/hr

Adjunct Assistant Professor: $100/hr
