FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Medical Professor (Clinical) Clinical Scientist in the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences with a starting date in Fall 2024.

The successful candidate will be an affiliate member of the Brooklyn College Cancer Center, and depending on their cancer-research focus will be appointed in one of the following academic departments: Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer & Information Science, Health and Nutrition Sciences, or Psychology. Brooklyn College will consider joint positions with BCCC-CURE partner institutions (medical centers and/or medical schools).

The Brooklyn College Cancer Center - Community Outreach, Research and Education (BCCC-CURE) is seeking to fill the position of Clinician Scientist/Assistant Medical Professor (Clinical). The applicant is expected to have a track record in cancer research (broadly defined). This position is for individuals, trained primarily as clinicians or licensed therapists, who seek to maintain clinical practice, teach at college level, and conduct research while strengthening their capacity to conduct cancer research. In addition to the regular start-up package, and benefits for new faculty offered at Brooklyn College CUNY, applicants can be supported by a Clinician Scientist Sub-Award from an American Cancer Society Institutional Grant awarded to BCCC-CURE (which can fund up to 50% of research time for four years (in addition to other research expenses).

BCCC-CURE was established in September of 2020 at Brooklyn College - City University of New York with a mission to enhance the lives and care of patients affected by cancer with a special focus on Brooklyn residents. Twenty faculty members from five different departments Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer & Information Science, Health and Nutrition Science, and Psychology are members at BCCC-CURE, along with education, community outreach and clinician scientists’ partners from Brooklyn College and partner institutions.

The Clinical Scientist’s responsibilities include:

  • Conduct cancer research (broadly defined).

  • Provide clinical care in cancer (as a medical doctor, psychologist, nurse practitioner, etc). The clinical care can be provided at a medical center in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Brooklyn College will consider joint positions with BCCC-CURE partner institutions.

  • Provide research and mentoring opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Teach a course(s) related to any discipline connected to cancer research (undergraduate or graduate level) and/or participate in service at BCCC-CURE, the host department, College and/or University.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Hold a medical and/or doctoral degree (e.g., MD, MD/PhD, DO, DDS, DNP, DSW, PharmD, PhD, PsyD, DVM), or terminal degree for their field, from an accredited institution with an active license in New York City to provide clinical care.

  • Ability to teach undergraduate or graduate courses is required.

  • Currently providing clinical care in New York City (Brooklyn or Manhattan a plus).

Preferred

  • Scientists/Clinicians in the areas of cancer epidemiology, psychology for cancer patients/survivors, and oncology with a medical translation component (e.g. performing clinical trials) are preferred for this job.

  • Experience/interest in addressing cancer disparities.

COMPENSATION

$108,755 - $155,196; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
