CAMBA Maintenance Worker, HASA Scattered Site Housing Program (SSHP) in Brooklyn, New York

HRA Scattered Site Housing Program (SSHP) –provides 270 scattered site-housing units to HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) clients. All the units are leased in the agency’s name. The operations component of the program focus on the housing units meeting habitability standards by working with landlords and management companies to address major repair issues and complete minor repairs, as well as identifying new units, negotiating leases and making units ready when there is a vacancy. In addition, clients receive partial financial assistance with their utility bills. Clients with income other than Public Assistance must pay thirty percent of their household’s income to the program as rent.
Position: Maintenance Worker I
Reports To: Operations Supervisor
Location: 19 Winthrop Street, Brooklyn, NY 11225
What The Maintenance Worker I Does:
Ensure that vehicle is properly serviced in accordance with maintenance schedule.
Perform daily pre-trip vehicle inspection prior to first trip of the day.
Immediately report vehicle and/or equipment that are inoperable, missing or improperly utilized.
Complete vehicle travel log for all trips.
Assist passengers needing assistance in order to enter and/or exit vehicle.
Keep vehicle clean and/or free of litter at all times.
Ensure that the parking plaque is in place and follow the instructions on where you can use the parking plaque
Follow all traffic laws while driving.
Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas. (19 Winthrop Street and/or other assigned CAMBA facilities).
Clean apartments, scrub, carpets, wax, polish floors, rugs, upholstered furniture, dust furniture and equipment, etc.
Paint interiors of program apartments.
Replace light bulbs.
May deliver/build furniture.
Transport trash and waste to disposal area and consolidate for pickup.
May assist clients in maintaining an appropriate living environment.
May polish metalwork, including lighting fixtures.
May wash walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
May replenish bathroom supplies.
May cut and trim grass, and shovel snow or use snow blower.
May drill out locks or change lock/cylinders.
May escort staff to program apartments.
May meet landlords/supers/contractors/Marshal at unit to resolve pending issue/s)
May glaze bathtub and/or bathroom sink.
May install bedroom/bathroom or closet door.
May install linoleum and/or commercial stick on tiles.
May install air conditioner brackets.
Attend trainings for professional development
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
- Sufficient education and technical expertise: to comprehend written and oral instructions (work orders); to accomplish maintenance tasks; and to document accomplished tasks.
Other Requirements:
Knowledge about, understanding of, and at least one year of experience working with, persons with HIV/AIDS and related issues.
Must have Valid New York State Driver’s License and excellent driving history.
Must complete NYS Approved Defensive Driving Classes every 3 years.
Must take Refresher Computerized Defensive Driver class
Must remain insurable based on CAMBA’s point system throughout the duration of employment.
If required to drive 15 passenger van, must score at least 80% on computerized 15 passenger van improvement test every year.
If required to drive 15 passenger van, must pass an observed Van Road Test

Compensation: $35,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
