New York University Part-Time Instructor, Department of Civil and Urban Engineering, New York University in Brooklyn, New York

The Department of Civil and Urban Engineering (CUE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for part-time, non-tenured instructors, with a start date of January 21, 2025.

The CUE department offers a BS degree in Civil Engineering, MS degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and Transportation Systems, and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering and Transportation Systems.

We invite applicants to teach one or more graduate or undergraduate courses. In particular, we presently seek instructors to teach laboratory sections of CE-UY 2213 Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics. The lab sections are currently scheduled to meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon during the spring 2025 semester. Strong candidates will have a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, be an excellent teacher, and have a record of teaching experience in the areas of fluid mechanics and hydraulics.

General responsibilities for this position include providing instruction and supervision during weekly laboratory class meetings (four in-class contact hours per week), and assigning and grading in-class assessments and out-of-class individual lab reports. The instructor is expected to do each experiment on his/her own prior to running the class, and to be familiar with the experimental process, data collection, and calculations. Training for NYU Laboratory Safety and NYC Fire Department Lab certification will be provided and are required.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the contact hour rate for this position is $214.24. This rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 7902.
