About the role

This position has responsibility for Investment Management of the Pensions, post-retirement health and welfare plans (collectively "employee retirement benefit plans" or "benefit plans"), and reports to the Director of Investment Management. In Investment Management, the position is responsible for monitoring funding and asset allocation strategies for the aforementioned plans. This position will also provide support for corporate and plan audits and will serve as back-up for the daily trust operations.

What you'll do

* Manage relationships and monitor performance of investment managers,
* Monitor compliance of plans to ensure plan activities are in accordance with filed documents.
* In partnership with Human Resources and Accounting, review liability projections and cash flow requirements.
* Source, review, analyze and provide recommendations for new liability management strategies.
* Monitor performance of financial markets for implications that could affect the programs.
* Coordinate with trustees, actuaries, accountants, auditors, external consultants, and legal services to ensure compliance with fiduciary and regulatory requirements.
* Knowledge of legislation and directives pertaining to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
* Ensure the plan's policies and procedures meet or exceed ERISA fiduciary and compliance standards.
* Prepare presentations to various reporting boards and committees
* Short-term and long-term investment performance is measured on a quarterly basis and compared to industry benchmarks and peer groups.
* Serve as a backup to administrative analyst in coordinating and tracking service provider invoices received on a monthly and quarterly basis and collaborating with the Transactions Delivery Center in processing invoices.
* Responsible for the strategic rebalancing of assets for all the aforementioned trusts. Develop and update comprehensive models of cash flow projections to provide short-term liquidity for pension payments, medical premium payments for health and life insurance, bequests for the National Grid foundation and all other expenses. Develop investment strategies for incoming contributions to achieve target allocations approved by the respective Investment Committees.

What you'll need

* Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics preferred.
* Experience with continuous process and productivity improvement, a process owner who manages time and resources well and sees the "big picture".
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* 5 years or more experience in pension and portfolio management
* Very strong hands-on knowledge of standard office productivity tools (MS Office components).
* Knowledge of relevant industry practice and legislation, including developments in regulation.

* Knowledge of legislation and directives pertaining to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) commensurate with years of experience.
* Understanding of domestic and international financial and risk management markets commensurate with years of experience.
* Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills since there is extensive interaction with portfolio managers, trustees, lawyers, consultants and senior management.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentations to various stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to apply and modify complex theories and learned concepts appropriately.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret information and analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation in order to clearly articulate the findings and anticipates obstacles and thinks ahead about next steps.
* Understanding of the theory behind policies and processes and demonstrates the ability to challenge existing processes and ways of working e.g. taking action to avoid future crisis or create opportunities to improve existing practices.
* Demonstrated ability to anticipate obstacles and think ahead about next steps.

What you'll get

Annual Salary

$102,000-$120,000

Salary commensurate with experience.

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
