Job Summary and Qualifications

The Cardiac Cath Lab RN is an individual who, after comprehensive training, is qualified to function as a scrub assistant, circulating RN or monitoring person and assist with the daily operational and business needs of the lab. The Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. This person is able to coordinate communication between all involved modalities in daily practice. Pre-screens patients and/or families to augment the procedural process. Must be able to recognize, report and document abnormal and/or critical screening values. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. Educates patients and families. Involvement in performance improvement activities to ensure continuous quality improvement.

In this position – you will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklists

  • Management and titration of drips and medication

  • Provides care for hemodynamically unstable patient

  • Management of intra-aortic balloon patient

  • Ability to recognize interpret dysrhythmias

  • Management/insertion of all CRM

  • Maintenance and documentation of department logs, Quality Improvement, defibrillators, ACT machines, etc.

  • Possesses knowledge of and demonstrates proper documentation in PAC Lab, MacLab/CardiolLab and Meditech Systems

  • Controls pharmaceutical narcotics using PYXIS System

  • Adheres to Infection Control Policies

  • Utilizes effective staff management as well as management of unit support cost/wastage

Qualification:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing and licensed in the state of Texas

  • BSN Preferred

  • Current BLS & ACLS Certifications (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)

  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and previous cardiovascular and 2 years critical care experience is required

  • CVRN Certification required within 2 years for fulltime employment

  • 1 year or more RN Critical Care &/or Cath Lab experience preferred
