Part Time Custodian

Job Number: 10-0500 Department: 10- Health Pay: $13.26 per hour Immediate Supervisor: Health Director

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs routine custodial duties of keeping the health department building and grounds neat and clean. Works up to 19 hours per week. May be required to come in early or work late on various days to get the job done. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:

  • Sets up meeting room facilities for City Council meetings and other meetings as directed
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and buffs floors, vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas as needed.
  • Washes walls, windows and woodwork when necessary.
  • Removes rubbish and wastepaper from offices and restrooms daily
  • Keeps restrooms and break room in clean, sanitary condition daily or more often if the need arises.
  • Clean and disinfect lab and exam rooms daily and assist clinicians as needed.
  • Cleans and disinfects water fountains daily.
  • Replenishes cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Checks the Health Department grounds for trash daily.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIORNMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites.
  • Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep, and pull.
  • Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work while standing on a ladder.
  • Work involves getting dirty and wet.
  • Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and odors.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

  • Frequent contact with employees and clients.
  • City and State officials in person and by telephone.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of use of various cleaning equipment
  • Knowledge of materials, chemicals, cleaning supplies commonly used in cleaning operations
  • Skill to clean and care for offices, building and grounds.
  • Must be honest and trustworthy.
  • Ability to follow instructions and attend to details involved in required clerical and cleaning operations.
  • Must be physically able to operate cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to handle these duties with minimal supervision.
