JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB ASSIGNMENT: Part-Time/Seasonal LIFEGUARD JOB NUMBER: 20-0720 DEPARTMENT:Parks and Recreation PAY: $12.24 per hour (Returning for 2nd year - $12.49 per hour) IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Head Lifeguard or Recreation Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a part-time seasonal position and is scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week during the spring and summer, and less than 1000 hours per fiscal year and less than 30 hours per week. Position is responsible for constant observance of various age groups for swimming in the pool; to control the public in the use of the pool facilities; to administer lifesaving techniques and first aid in case of accidents or emergencies around pool areas; to call for additional assistance immediately when necessary. Responsible for keeping the restrooms and pool area clean according to health regulations. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:

• Will constantly observe participants in the pool
• Will ensure water safety and enforce all safety rules in and out of the water
• Will keep all areas of the pool and restroom areas clean
• Will administer first aid and respondimmediately to call for assistance in case of accidents or emergencies in and around the pool area andthe premises
• Head Lifeguard or person designated by Recreation Supervisor will be responsible for takingregular interval readings of chlorine and PH levels and check necessary equipment for sanitation of pools
• Mow, weed-eat, and rake lawn
• Must attend weekly in service Lifeguard training
• Perform other duties asassigned by Head Lifeguard or Recreation Aquatics Supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

• Outdoors: exposed to sun and water the majority of the time. Work is pleasant most of the time.
• Ability to sitand stand.
• Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and beexposed to mechanical and chemical hazards.
• Ability to lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds frequently and50-100 pounds occasionally and be able to drag up to 80 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to bend, stoop, walk, pushbrooms and sweep.
• Ability to operate a lawn mower and weed-eater.
• Ability to walk over sloped and uneventerrain.
• Work involves getting dirty and wet and cutting grass.
• Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises,fumes, and odors.
• Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public.
• Ability to understand verbaland written communication.

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS: Constant contact with other lifeguards and the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have enough education to at least read, write and effectively communicate.
