Reimbursement & Access Manager (RAM) - CNS - Midlands, UK


The Reimbursement and Access Manager (RAM) is a field-based employee responsible for providing specialist information and support to UK payer customers, defined as those within the NHS who have responsibility for, or influence over, decisions that have an impact on the public funding of Allergan products. RAM activity supports the funding and uptake of Allergan products through working with payers and payer influencers to put in place local guidance’s, pathways, service models and other enabling mechanisms. RAMs are expected to have a high level of knowledge of the NHS and an understanding of the risks and opportunities it provides for market access. Except where engaged in advanced budgetary notification activity (see below), the role of the RAM is considered promotional.


Leading Local Access 50%

  • Ensure that local commissioning, financial, service and pathway arrangements promote optimal funding and access for AbbVie CNS products

  • Remove access barriers to AbbVie CNS products at local level by identifying, tracking and overcoming critical hurdles

  • Ensure the alignment of local access projects and activities with overall business priorities and local territory and account management plans

  • Drive acceptance for business cases, local pathways, protocols or other access enablers through utilising relevant demographic, epidemiological, clinical and economic data

Opportunity Seeking Access 30%

  • Establish a strong understanding of the local health economies across territory and proactively identify opportunities for improving access for and uptake of AbbVie products

  • Develop, maintain and expand productive relationships with payers and payer influencers and utilise this network in support of access goals and opportunities

  • Identify opportunities for partnership working with local NHS organisations and champion the implementation of joint-working projects that are aligned with business needs, compliant and that could deliver a win-win outcome

  • Proactively share experiences and learnings with the RAM team more widely to help support an opportunity-seeking market access culture,

  • Be the “NHS expert” across territory and proactively share learnings, opportunities and issues with product specialists and other members of the local team

  • Advanced Budgetary Notification - Where directed, carry out advance budgetary notification for Allergan products to support the NHS in making provision for the introduction of such products following marketing authorisation. Ensure that any ABN activity is kept separate from other market access work and that it is carried out strictly in compliance with the ABPI Code of Practice specifications for ABN

Performance Focus 20%

  • Ensure that all projects, goals and objectives are agreed with the RAM team manager according to SMART criteria, and that they are properly aligned with national and local business priorities

  • Work with the RAM team manager to develop metrics (including sales metrics) for all project activities enabling measurement of the value added by the RAM (nb: commercial metrics will not be appropriate for ABN activity)

  • Ensure that project and other activities are properly recorded and tracked

  • Maintain an appropriate balance, in line with management guidance issued, between activities in support of different products or business units



  • Life-sciences degree preferred; proven ability to assimilate and simplify both clinical and economic information and data

  • A commercial background with experience in at least one of the following areas: pharmaceutical/device sales, pharmaceutical marketing, pharmaceutical business/market development or a reimbursement and access role with proven success

  • A comprehensive knowledge of healthcare structure, policy and governance across the UK

  • A strong understanding of healthcare funding and decision-making at national, regional and local level

  • A solid knowledge of the principles of evidence-based medicine and the applicability of health outcomes measures

  • Direct experience of working with the full breadth of NHS customers preferred


  • Strong creative and conceptual thinking skills

  • Willingness to travel extensively, mainly within the UK

  • Proven ability to perform under pressure and remain positive and motivated

  • Strong relationship building qualities (External & Internal)

  • Strong ability to work in cross-functional & matrix teams
