It also includes the provision of tax support to Diageo’s business units, delivery of projects to create shareholder value, and proactive management and mitigation of key tax risks.

About the role

This role is critical in delivering the group tax external and internal reporting requirements including our obligations under SOX. The role sits in the Global Tax Team and works closely with the Group Controllers department.

The scope includes planning and delivering all tax reporting requirements, proactively managing the Group’s auditors on all aspects of the year end and interim reporting and ensuring Diageo meets the highest standards of compliance in tax reporting (including external and management reporting).

This role responsible for overseeing the management and coordination of the Global tax service contract, delivering against all governance requirements, and building/ executing an effective control and risk management framework for Tax Reporting.

In addition it also includes the responsibility for the group’s CBCR (country by country reporting) Diageo is required to submit towards HMRC (UK tax authority) and responsibility for overseeing the group’s tax risk footprint and ensuring that consistent and appropriate judgement have been made and those our properly reflected in our external reports. There is scope for exposure to key stakeholders within the Finance function.

  • A key role in the delivery of the external reporting requirements for the Group including timely and accurate production of specific tax sections of the Diageo Information pack, Group accounts and other relevant analyses and presentation from the group consolidation reporting system

  • Planning and delivery of external reporting including engaging with key stakeholders (FP&R, Investor Relations, CFO, CEO, auditors), including a detailed understanding of all the key components of the entire Diageo tax position. Leading and managing delivery of internal reporting (cash tax and ETR) including briefing of key stakeholders (Investor Relations, CFO and CEO)

  • Monitoring of changes to external environment with respect to reporting and assessment of impact to Diageo including understanding of implications of IFRS standards. Managing formulisation of best interpretation of standards as applicable to Diageo, influencing of interpretation within Diageo, obtaining agreement of interpretation with the Group’s auditors.

  • Technical review and sign off of accounting implications for all Group tax projects, BD transactions, other projects impacting ETR or deferred tax Technical review and sign off on the critical ad significant tax provisions and contingencies of the Group. Timely and accurate production and submission of the group’s CBCR report towards HMRC. Overseeing and managing the performance and relationship with our global tax outsourcing partner.

What you'll bring

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA) with at least 8-10 years professional experience •

  • Strong technical accountant with an excellent understanding of IFRS

  • Experience in risk management Confidential Confidential

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills that facilitate effective networking and relationship building with senior stakeholders

  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure

  • Good judgement

  • Imaginative thinker of capable of devising solutions to complex issues
