Summary:

As a member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) assumes an active leadership role with Catholic Health's governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management and other clinical leaders in the system's decision-making structure. Under the direction of the President & Chief Executive Officer, the CNO is responsible for the clinical and managerial operations of the Nursing/Care Delivery Services service line, including Nursing, Social Work, Quality, Respiratory Care, and Interpreters. In collaboration with clinical leadership and departmental administration, sets the strategic direction and ensures effective and efficient operations, allocates resources to promote growth and expansion of services, monitors and improves access to services and ensures compliance with all regulatory and payer requirements. The CNO provides leadership direction to the professional development of the nursing team and collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. With a focus on associate and patient satisfaction, provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession and acts as an advocate for the protection of rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing and other professions and institutions and organizations, related to health and safety. Works directly with site Vice Presidents of Patient Care Services to develop standardization, improving the quality and safety of care provided, promoting nursing excellence while managing cost and improving efficiency.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

  • Master's degree required in Nursing or Hospital Administration

  • Current registration with the New York State Education Department as a Registered Professional Nurse

  • Certification in Nursing Administration, advanced preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible Nursing and Senior Management experience in healthcare required, ten (10) years of leadership experience preferred

  • Experience in a multi-facility, unionized healthcare organization strongly preferred

  • Experience leading care delivery along with the continuum of care, with a particular preference for effectively leading large scale ambulatory and/or continuing care clinical operations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Must demonstrate the ability to establish a strong, supportive and effective partnership with union partners and Magnet/ PTE

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with a wide variety of healthcare roles, including clinicians and associates, from different backgrounds to achieve results, demonstrating respect for diversity and encouraging collaboration

  • Ability to drive strategic direction

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory landscape and regulatory bodies; experience leading union and non-union workforce; experience managing through healthcare technology transformation; and comfort building strong community relationships in a mission driven organization

  • Dynamic knowledge of and experience developing and executing strategies related to leading edge population health, value based care, quality, safety and patient experience

  • Ability to build and effectively communicate consensus across the leadership team on critical decisions related to their shared and individual scope of responsibilities
