STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled inspections, diagnosis, maintenance, servicing, and repair work on construction equipment and medium / heavy trucks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspect,diagnose, and repair various air conditioning / heating systems.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, including emptying trash and floor clean-up when necessary.
  • Services all vehicles and equipment on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Performs minor repairs on all vehicles and equipment to ensure performance under all conditions.
  • Makes improvements or modifications to new or existing City vehicles in accordance with departmental needs and specifications.
  • Operates a variety ofdiagnostic instruments and a variety ofhand, electric, and air-driven tools.
  • Repairs brakes, engine electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air,exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Replaces and repairs faulty parts,including wheel bearings, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems,steering mechanisms, and other components.
  • Works on relays, lights, and switches; changes and installs belts and hoses.
  • Changes and repairs tires and tubes.
  • Maintains complete and accurate maintenance and repair records forvehicles and equipment.
  • Attends training courses; reads and studies assigned materials related tooperation of City vehicles and equipment maintenance.
  • Provides emergency field assistance todisabled equipment as needed and appropriate.
  • May transport vehicles and equipment as directed.
  • Provides exceptional customer service tointernal and external customers.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Modern principles of tools, equipment, and materials used in skilled automotive and equipment maintenance and repair, work Operation and care of internal combustion engines and components.

  • Personal computer,calculator,phone, mobile phone or portable radio.
  • Motorizedvehiclesformechanicalpurposesalongwithcommonhandtools,power hand tools and equipment forvehicle and mechanical systemwork.
  • Electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment.
  • Mechanic\'stoolsincludingjacks,hydrauliclifts,airtools,andothertoolsrequiredfor minor repairs and routine maintenance ofmotorized vehicles.
