The Walt Disney Company Director, Business Strategy in Burbank, California

Platform Distribution Strategy is responsible for applying ingenuity and critical thinking skills to advance the Media Networks, Direct-To-Consumer, and home entertainment businesses. The Director, Business Strategy would lead efforts to identify, create, and evaluate sales strategies and tactics to advance the ABC business, across all our ABC Affiliates (e.g., Scripps, Hearst, Nexstar). In addition, the Director will play a principal role in projects that help shape Disney Platform Distribution’s long-term ABC strategy, including evaluating new opportunities, strategic approaches, and marketplace trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead economic evaluations in support of negotiations with key distribution partners by determining financial terms for proposals, term sheets, and financial models in support of a multi-billion dollar business.

  • Work with the ABC Affiliate Relations team to drive business goals across ABC broadcast/linear and digital distribution and in support of key company priorities.

  • Serve as a leader on the Business Strategy team, and manage team, contributing to their specific skill and long term professional development as well as fostering an inclusive team culture for learning and growth.

  • Partner closely with division finance teams to develop ABC’s revenue and subscriber guidance for Disney Platform Distribution’s long-range planning process and quarterly forecasts.

  • Manage platform or service-focused analyses for distribution opportunities and conduct ongoing evaluations around key business drivers, industry trends, new business models and strategies.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with diverse group of partners within Disney Platform Distribution as well as across the organization with Legal, Finance, Network Groups, Research, Programming and broader segment in order to collaborate on analyses and drive decision making.

  • Communicate effectively and persuasively to all audiences, including executive management.Develop key insights and communicate complex analyses in an efficient and effective manner to a variety of audiences.

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of content distribution and the market landscape for ABC/broadcast television, Disney, ESPN, and direct-to-consumer.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years or related work experience within analytical, financial, strategic and/or business development

  • At least 3 years of experience in people management

  • Knowledge of broadcast distribution landscape, partners, competitors, and current trends in the media industry

  • In-depth understanding of broadcast affiliation and content distribution business models. Able to determine detailed contractual ramifications of deal points and oversee development of deal models and analyses in support of ABC affiliation negotiations

  • Excellent management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Proven financial/business analytical skills including experience managing in-depth analyses and projects from concept to completion

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or JD ideal, but not required

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $180,100.00-$241,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
