Under general supervision, plans, organizes and directs imaging modality staff engaged in creating images used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Manages section operations including the production of images ensuring that quality and volumes are properly produced. Develops and controls operating budgets for supplies, expense, wages, salaries and capital. Complies with all applicable federal and state or other regulations.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Staff Supervision: Supervises and directs technologists and support staff engaged in creating images used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Develops work schedules to ensure proper staff coverage. Communicates and enforces section policies and procedures. Interviews and hires prospective staff. Reviews job performance, disciplines and if necessary discharges non-performing staff. Provides training and guidance to new staff.

  • Training: Develops training materials relating to protocol and application / software updates. Updated policy and procedure manuals as appropriate to comply with industry standards for the applicable imaging modality.

  • HR Function: Ensures that job descriptions are accurate and up to date; responsible for timely completion of performance appraisals and competency assessments for all staff. Oversight of colleague time away, overtime and shift work. In partnership with Human Resources ensures that policies and procedures are followed taking corrective action as needed.

  • Protocols: Works with physician leadership (section heads) to formulate or revise imaging protocols and in specifying procedures utilized in the production of images. Ensures that all protocols are regularly updated and that all changes are communicated to imaging staff.

  • Budget and Control: In conjunction with administrative leadership develops annual budgets and monitors performance against budget weekly. Forecasts operating budgets and revenues for new fiscal year based on actual experience while developing opportunities for increasing volumes and reducing costs. Controls budget by identifying variances and taking corrective action to realign section performance with budget plan.

  • Compliance: Designs and implements processes to maintain compliance with all policies and procedures on a daily basis.

  • Process Improvement: Works in conjunction with administrative leadership and Radiology Information Services to improve billing and collections processes. Meets regularly with Patient Financial Services (PFS) to review Current Procedure Terminology (CPT) coding as currently used and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure that Lahey Health receives proper credit from third party payers for work performed. Serves on or leads various improvement teams to continuously improve operating results.

  • Responsible for maintaining operational performance measurements. Conducts periodic team meetings to review performance targets and benchmarks as well as other improvement processes. Assigns responsibility for process quality and efficiency to a specific technical supervisor on each shift. Defines and maintains quality and efficiency performance information for each technical supervisor and incorporates results into the individual’s performance evaluation.

  • Professional Development: Regularly attends professional meetings, seminars and other conferences to build on current professional knowledge and skills. Maintains current licensure and credentials within own imaging specialty. Keeps knowledge current by reviewing professional literature and shares findings with colleagues.

  • Incorporates the guiding principles and mission statement of Lahey Health into all daily activities.

  • Complies with all policies established by Lahey Health

  • Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and of Lahey Health

  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients

  • Demonstrates an understanding of job description, performance expectations and competency assessment

  • Participates in departmental and/or inter-departmental

  • Participates in and successfully completes mandatory education

  • Performs other duties in support of the organization as required or directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Healthcare Management or related field highly preferred

  • Graduate from an accredited program in radiologic technology required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:-

  • ARRT (MR) Certification Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • In absence of Bachelor’s Degree, candidates with 15+ years of related experience considered.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Excellent discretion and ability to problem solve independently, yet knowing when to engage the Director and Department Chair

  • Superb analytic skills

  • Ability to prioritize, delegate and manage multiple responsibilities

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with business software

  • Ability to foster relationships with department physician leadership
