Job Description

AECOM Transportation Planning is growing and is seeking a dynamic and innovative on-call Senior Transportation Planner/Engineer to join our team.

The successful candidates will be based in any of our AECOM BC offices, where the multi-disciplinary planning team works on a wide range of projects shaping and delivering transportation solutions for tomorrow across the Metro Vancouver Area, Canada and around the globe

§ Providing clients with transportation planning services, serving as a technical analyst and/or project coordinator, with a focus on transit planning, policy, and economics projects, such as:

§ Transit station planning and functional design

§ Transportation policy studies

§ Business case assessments for transportation projects

§ Transportation master plan studies

§ Active transportation planning and design projects

§ Environmental assessments for transportation facilities

§ Input to traffic impact studies

§ Transportation study peer reviews

§ Construction traffic management

§ Traffic signal timing development

§ Preparing documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, maps, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications, consultation materials, and meeting minutes

§ Communicating and working with other project team members, including mentoring junior-level team members

§ Liaising with and assisting other departments and offices in the provision of transportation planning services to clients

§ Completing work within the prescribed time and budget while maintaining high quality

§ Support with the expansion of the group by one or more staff in the first 18 months

§ Oversee, lead and manage a portion of the Transportation Planning group with Transit and Rail

§ Proactively lead, mentor and develop the group with one or more direct reports.

§ Oversee and manage strong utility for your direct reports with a health back-log

§ In collaboration with the groups in the wider transportation division and leveraging the wider resource of AECOM, expand and grow the AECOM portfolio, our expertise, and the business within transportation/urban planning in existing and new emerging markets

§ Leading business development activities, proposals

§ Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, annexations, site plans and plats.

§ Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.

§ Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use and transportation projects.

§ Develops plans, studies and analyses on regional basis.

§ Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management, and others.

§ Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.

§ Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or similar field with a strong emphasis on transportation planning or engineering

  • 4+ years of experience in transportation planning or engineering with some experience in transit, active transportation, and/or multimodal projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • § Ideally, 12+ years of experience in transportation planning and project management

  • § Masters Degree or higher is advantageous

  • § Proven track-record of delivering technical and non-technical projects;§ Possesses an engineering license (P.Eng.) or registered professional planner designation (RPP, MCIP) in British Columbia, or in progress to obtaining one of these

  • § 4-stage modelling methods and travel demand modelling software (e.g., EMME v2 or greater, TransCAD)

  • § Transit service operations and planning practices, as well as transit priority assessments

  • § Experience in a professional consulting environment

  • § Experience in transportation planning policies and infrastructure economics, including appreciation of transit service systems and revenue forecasting

  • § Able to manage large data sets using excel (or other tabulation software) and understand macros (using VBA/Excel, python, etc)

  • § Familiarity with public finance issues related to municipalities and provinces in British Columbia and Canada, including revenue tools and development charges

  • § Bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure planning and design, including familiarity of established and emerging design practices locally and globally

  • § Transportation demand management and parking policies

  • § Strong expertise in understanding and applying analytical outputs from transportation planning modelling tools, such as Synchro, EMME, TransCAD, VISSIM and or equivalent

  • Strong understanding of current transportation planning, policy, and infrastructure initiatives in the Lower Mainland /BC area including land use and demographic trends in the region, and general urban planning and related policy issues

  • § Support with the expansion of the group by one or more staff in the first 18 months

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $125,000.00.
