Fairview is looking for a Lead Security Officer to join our team at our Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN.

Job Opportunity: Lead Security Officer

Location: Ridges Hospital, Burnsville, MN

Shift: Evening shift with an every weekend requirement (1.0 FTE, 80 hours per pay period)

Starting Wage: $24.29/hr, with increases based on proven experience

  • Shift Differentials: $2/hr for evenings and $2/hr for weekends

Responsibilities Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lead Security Officer at Fairview plays a crucial role in guiding and instructing probationary Security Officers through structured on-site and on-the-job training programs. This position provides leadership in the absence of supervisory staff, ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff, and protecting property from theft and vandalism. The role requires proactive engagement to prevent incidents, quick response to emergencies, and effective communication and teamwork with other security officers and staff.

Job Expectations:

  • Guidance and Training:

  • Guides, instructs, and reviews probationary Security Officers.

  • Applies learning theory and comprehension principles to training programs.

  • Administers skill proficiency and written examinations as needed.

  • Conducts daily random performance evaluations.

  • Assists in administering performance improvement plans.

  • Assists in developing or improving existing education courses.

  • Develops and provides in-service training.

  • Temporary Leadership:

  • Provides temporary leadership in the absence of supervisory staff.

  • Responds to staff and customer questions and concerns.

  • Assists officers with policy and process definition.

  • Ensures adequate staffing in response to open hours or unexpected absences.

  • Manages overtime within guidelines set by department management.

  • Ensuring Safety:

  • Assures the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Responds quickly and effectively to all emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance.

  • Provides visible deterrents to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling buildings and grounds.

  • Makes critical decisions based on available information.

  • Reports all safety hazards observed during patrols and inspections.

  • Ensures completion of assigned safety inspections.

  • Conflict Resolution:

  • Uses appropriate interpersonal skills and techniques to gain acceptance for ideas or solutions.

  • Uses influencing strategies to gain genuine agreements.

  • Seeks to persuade rather than force solutions or impose decisions or regulations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Two Years Security or Military Experience OR

  • Associates Degree and One Year of Security Experience

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License and DMV record which meets Fairview insurability requirements.

  • Must be able to pass pre-assignment training within the probationary period.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associates Degree in a related field

Experience:

  • 2 Years in Healthcare Security
