As part of the Sensors team based in Burnsville, Minnesota the Mechanical Engineer co-op will work in the Air Data Systems (ADS) design team and be responsible for working on integrated product teams to develop new advanced air data systems products while also supporting existing products in production.

The Mechanical co-op will be part of an integrated product team focused on developing new sensor technology and developing improvements to sensor design that benefit factory operations. The co-op must have a broad interest in the field of engineering. You will be engaged in new and existing product design, including but not limited to the design of sensor packaging, prototype build/test activities, design for manufacturing, and documentation.

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January-August 2025 (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide support to Design Engineers in areas such as: mechanical CAD design, thermal analysis, material science, system testing, data collection, and analyzing test data

  • Participate in design decision making and lab prototype testing

  • Work fluidly within multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams executing projects according to plan

You will have access to a world class wind tunnel, environmental test lab, and forensics investigation lab to help our team continue delivering industry leading air data solutions. The co-op engineer will be a highly motivated self-starter capable of driving tasks and small projects to completion on time and on budget.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Engineering Physics, or a related field.

  • Strong academic background in material science and metallurgy.

  • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering analysis tools.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Experience with material characterization techniques.

  • Knowledge of metallurgical processes and heat treatment.

  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational modeling.

    Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. Must be a commutable distance to Burnsville, MN to work an onsite schedule. This position may be eligible for relocation.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
