Job Description

AECOM 's Environment Team is actively seeking an Environmental Planner with experience with delivering infrastructure projects involving environmental assessments in Alberta and impact assessments at the federal level. Experience is required in developing and executing engagement and consultation programs, coordinating environmental specialists, as well as identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities. The candidate must be skilled at providing advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies, as well as documenting the project process.

We are seeking highly motivated and accountable candidates that work collaboratively with other team members and are effective communicators. Project management experience, organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.

As part of our team, the successful applicant will lead projects, environmental management work and deliverables throughout a project life cycle, including:

  • Leading projects/disciplines and working with project managers in executing federal IAs and municipal and provincial EAs (planning, preliminary design and detail design), as well as other approval and permitting activities for infrastructure projects.

  • Liaising with clients by phone, email, writing, virtually and in-person.

  • Liaising with local, provincial, and federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.

  • Collaborating with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.

  • Coordinating, preparing for, attending, and documenting project meetings.

  • Coordinating and managing environmental specialists (e.g., fisheries, terrestrial, noise, air, archaeology) and planning support staff.

  • Being familiar with Alberta Public Lands Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and federal Impact Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, Species At Risk Act, Canadian Navigable Waters Act, , and other relevant legislation.

  • Researching, conceptualizing, planning, and writing drafts of reports related to planning, design and permitting.

  • Project management including initiation, planning, execution and closing.

  • Supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental management/planning, environmental science, environmental studies, urban and regional planning or related field.

  • Experience with the environmental impact assessment and related legislation (e.g., Alberta Public Lands Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and federal Impact Assessment Act, Fisheries Act, Species At Risk Act, Canadian Navigable Waters Act and their regulations).

  • Excellent communication skills with proven success in engaging design managers, discipline leads and contractors, and negotiating with regulatory agencies to secure project approvals.

Preferred Requirements

  • 6 + years of experience.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, local, provincial, and federal agencies.

  • Solid project management skills, including initiation, planning, execution, and closing.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and across multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Organizational skills to manage project deliverables and timelines efficiently.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $67,000.00 - $90,000.00.
