Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our growing Western Canada remediation team. Reporting to the AVP Remediation, the successful candidate will have a leadership role for delivery on major mine site remediation portfolios of work in northern Canada. Engaging with multi-disciplined internal and external delivery teams, you will be at the forefront of delivery on some of Canada’s largest remediation projects. With your client-centric approach and proven technical expertise, you will be a trusted leader for our team and a steadfast advisor for our clients, ensuring the successful execution of every exciting and challenging project you undertake.

This position is ideally suited to a professional with over 20 years experience in the mining and/or heavy civil industry, including over ten years in a project management role on major projects (>$30 M). The ideal candidate is experienced in developing project teams to support execution, with an understanding of people and project management, project controls and a strong understanding of the technical project elements associated with heavy civil remediation. Experience in northern climates and the norther Canada regulatory environment is a definite asset.

AECOM is flexible with the home office location; however, our preference is a position in one of our offices in a major centre in Western Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB) or the Territories. AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work. This is a full-time position.

Core responsibilities includ e:

Project Planning and Scheduling

Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.

Coordinate with stakeholders to define project objectives, deliverables, and key milestones.

Resource Management

Allocate and manage project resources effectively, including personnel, equipment, and materials.

Ensure adequate staffing and training for project teams.

Risk Management

Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Budget Management

Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.

Monitor project expenditures and implement cost-saving measures where possible.

Stakeholder Communication

Maintain regular communication with stakeholders, including clients, team members, and senior management.

Prepare and present project status reports, highlighting key achievements, risks, and issues.

Quality Assurance

Ensure project deliverables meet the required quality standards and specifications.

Implement quality control processes and conduct regular inspections.

Compliance and Documentation

Ensure projects comply with relevant regulations, standards, and organizational policies.

Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, progress reports, and change orders.

Team Leadership

Lead and motivate project teams to achieve project objectives.

Provide guidance, support, and feedback to team members.

Change Management

Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and costs.

Ensure changes are documented and approved by relevant stakeholders.

Performance Monitoring

Track project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.

Conduct post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering/science discipline: Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental etc.

Registered Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Canada (or eligible for licensing)

10+ years of related experience within civil and/or environmental engineering field

Consulting engineering experience as a engineer or project manager

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Exposure to northern remediation design projects, environmental assessment, environmental engineering, civil engineering, remedial option assessment, implementation, system operation and maintenance

Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

20+ years of technical and project management experience.

A track record of managing multiple projects whilst mentoring and developing up-coming Project Managers and Coordinators

Experience leveraging the skill sets of a sophisticated Project Controls team

Organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project and technical issues

Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification

Exposure to northern remediation design projects, environmental assessment, environmental engineering, civil engineering, remedial option assessment, implementation, system operation and maintenance.

Strong time management and organizational skills.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills; work within multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues; a patient team member who is excited to engage a diverse team and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues of all levels of experience.

A high level of initiative and enthusiasm for getting things done.

Willing to travel to Canada’s northern territories for brief periods.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $145,000.00 - $230,000.00.
