Description
Job Summary:
Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and instrumentation as requested through work orders. Position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.
Essential Functions:
Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and instrumentation as requested through work orders
Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical instrumentation, equipment and systems
Disassembles, rebuilds and reassembles motors, valves, pumps, gearboxes, etc., to rehabilitate equipment; evaluates the operation of equipment after rebuilding
Performs electrical work including but not limited to connecting and disconnecting wires and performs all corrective and preventive maintenance on building electrical supply circuits
Investigates and corrects pump control and other problems
Responds to emergency and customer complaint calls, which includes standby duty.
Submits all necessary documentation for maintenance and administrative functions
Perform standby duties on a rotational basis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.):
Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures
Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission to the public
Expert knowledge of relevant maintenance and repair practices and procedures as they relate to electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and instrumentation
Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for ensuring safety
Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
Ability to wear appropriate PPE for confined space entry, including respiratory gear
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.):
Training and/or Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and three years or more experience working on mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems
Experience:
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
Licenses or Certificates:
Wastewater Collections 2 Certification
Class B Maryland CDL Driver’s License with Tanker and Airbrake Endorsements

Physical Demands:
Work demands occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling moderately heavy tools, equipment or materials of 30 to 60 pounds or more.
Unusual Demands:
Work may involve risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, or machines. Employees may be required to use protective gear such as boots, gloves, or goggles; may require working in adverse weather conditions.
