Interest and experience with digital communications and social media. Financial literacy and attention to detail, with some development experience preferred. BA degree preferred.

About the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts

Free and open to the public, Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts is the center for contemporary art and artists at Harvard University. Housed within Le Corbusier’s only building in North America, the Carpenter Center was built in 1963 to accommodate the university’s art and film studios alongside a dynamic exhibition program. Through exhibitions, public events, new commissions, publications, and residencies, the Carpenter Center is dedicated to artist-centered programing and building a vibrant community around contemporary art. Department:Art, Film, and Visual StudiesPre-Employment Screening:Credit, Criminal, IdentityJob Function:General Administration Position Description:

  • Coordinates and oversees the Carpenter Center's communications including writing and sending press releases, e-announcements, and social media posts; updates the Carpenter Center’s website; writes other institutional literature; and is liaison to members of the press, fulfilling media requests.

  • Oversees special events including opening receptions and dinners, occasional alumni and patron engagement events, press previews, and other special events.

  • Coordinates fundraising efforts lead by the Director, including writing and organizing grant applications, support with individual donor cultivation and tracking, and creating reports for funders. With director, coordinates long-range fundraising planning.

  • Works closely with the Director and Exhibitions Manager to create schedules and budgets, reconciles financial reports, communicates variances while working with the financial management team of Art, Film, and Visual Studies (AFVS).

  • Supports the Director by gathering reports and information for presentations, scheduling meetings, and facilitating good communication amongst colleagues.

  • Works closely and collaboratively with Curatorial and Public Programs Assistant to coordinate schedule of events and other projects, and with Gallery and Bookshop Attendant on online store, social media posts, and website updates.

Job Summary:

The Communications and Administrative Coordinator performs a wide range of communications, organizational, and development activities that enrich audience, community, and engagement with the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts. This position works closely with the Director supporting key institutional initiatives. They create and coordinate external writing and digital communications and are a liaison with members of the press. They coordinate fundraising efforts, and engage with patrons, vendors, and foundations. They coordinate special events, visitor experience, and contribute to the center’s smooth administrative functioning.
