Job Summary
The Safety Technician is tasked with examining the worksite for safety, environmental or physical factors that could affect employee and/or visitor health, safety, comfort, and performance. Ensuring the workplace/worksite is as safe as possible accomplished through conduct of risk assessments, safety analyses, job site reviews, and coaching. They will conduct on site safety data acquisition, performs observations, inspections, audits and training needs assessments, reviews SOPs, and performs equipment/facility audits. Assists in problem solving, both internally and externally, issues and monitors permits, such as hot work, safe work, and Lock Out Tag Out permits and tests safety system(s) performance by conducting inspections, periodic facility/equipment ground checks, fire system deluge operation and daily manufacturing compliance and develop training materials, conduct safety training, and new hire orientation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above
- Ensure regular inspections are done on all building safety equipment (safety showers, eye wash, fire extinguishers, etc.).
- Maintain stock of safety supplies, such as safety glasses, cleaners, etc.
- Ensure that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Coordinate and participate in First-Aid, CPR and AED training.
- Develop, implement, and manage EH&S Program(s) as assigned.
- Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and other risk management tools in support of PSM and FOD controlled environments.
- Provide safety orientation for all new hires.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and operations to identify potential safety hazards
- Provide safety training to employees and management on a regular basis
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans
- Monitor safety performance in the workplace and provide feedback to employees and management
- Maintain safety records and documentation
- Issues and monitors hot work permits, confined space entries, and lockout/tag out permits.
- Assists in emergency situations.
- Performs Industrial Hygiene related testing such as noise level, air flow of process exhaust system, personal air sampling, etc.
- Trains employees on safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with OSHA and DOD regulations.
- Enforces use of PPE and other critical safety equipment.
- Identifies p tential causes for accidents and recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness including reviews of near misses.
- Tests conductive floors and building grounding systems to comply with DoD 4145.26M and the DoD Surveillance Standard for Lightning Protection.
- Complies with and assists with maintenance of the ISO 14001 system.
- Understands and conducts himself/herself by Armtecs ethics and business conduct policies.
- Performance of other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ability to lift 50 lbs, walk throughout production areas including stairs, ability to wear a respirator and appropriate protective equipment.
Understand how to operate and interpret data from air quality monitors, noise level meters, posture analysis software, ergonomic checklists, and measurement devices to assess conditions and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
Capable of training in all areas of Safety assessments, audits, SOPs, and New Hire Training.
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and work without close supervision.
