Cornell Cooperative Extension CCE of Ontario County: 4H After School Educator – Canandaigua, NY in Canandaigua, New York

Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Ontario County 4-H Subject Educator will deliver 4-H programming for a menu of 4-H educational programs and activities in support of 4-H After School programming and Ag in the Classroom. The Subject Educator coordinates and delivers 4-H After School programming and activities both on-site and off-site in accordance with the 4-H Youth Development Program Area’s plan of work. Under the guidance of program leadership, the position will support supervisor to coordinate the 4-H After School program.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. (Associate degree plus 2 years transferable program/functional experience may substitute.)

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position

    Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-4 years youth development experience.

  • Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.

    Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

    Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery – 70%

  • Implement existing 4-H programming to include, but not limited to: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Healthy Living, Natural Resources, and Citizenship/Civic Engagement.

  • Under the direction and oversight of program leadership, occasionally apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lessons plans to deliver educational program.

  • Assist in teaching innovative educational programs when grant-funded opportunities arise.

  • Teach existing educational programs as defined utilizing a variety of proven educational methodologies.

  • Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.

  • Serve as a subject matter resource in related disciplines.

  • Provide standard responses and assist as needed in providing moderately complex nonstandard responses.

  • Interact effectively with program participants and volunteers to provide programming and support.

  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

  • May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts within the Association or regionally to deliver program.

  • May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within the scope of the statewide Plan of Work.

Program Evaluation – 10%

  • Implement program evaluation as designed.

  • Interact with program participants, Association staff, program committees, county/community leaders, and other key stakeholders to collect evaluation data for improving programs.

  • Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods.

  • Communicate evaluation results and findings.

  • Assist in recommending program changes to strengthen and improve programs.

    Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 5%

  • Assist in the planning of major 4-H programs and events.

  • Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.

Management – 5%

  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the 4-H Youth Development programming, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with guidance of supervisor as needed.

  • Provide low complexity administrative management of established educational program goals.

  • Perform tasks related to supervisory responsibilities as applicable to program staff, e.g. temporary summer assistants and program educators, when applicable, dependent on funding.

  • Give guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work.

  • Implement the existing Volunteer Enrollment and Selection Process.

Coordination/Operation – 5%

  • Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H After School Programming.

  • Collect participant membership information as required.

  • Coordinate identified administrative aspects of 4-H Programming to include, but not be limited to: ordering and inventory of supplies and marketing of 4-H Programs.

  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals.

  • May provide low complexity limited tasks related to the support and implementation of the program budget.

  • May provide input to support the implementation of mass media efforts related to program.

  • Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.

  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.

  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as requested.

  • This position will require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
