The role of the Career Counselor is to provide vocational assistance to individuals with disabilities. The Career Counselor will manage a diverse caseload of individuals receiving OPWDD and/or ACCES-VR services. Each client will be provided individualized assistance with job preparation, search, development, placement, coaching, and/or traveling training. The Career Counselor will provide vocational counseling & guidance to identify potential career and educational pathways. Close collaboration with employers and community partners is required to secure employment opportunities, work try-outs, customized positions, and vocational assessments. Career Counselor will also collaborate with Living Resources’ College Experience Program to ensure that students and graduates have the support needed to be successful in employment upon graduation. Services must be documented in detailed case notes and reports and submitted in a timely manner.

The Career Counselor will also serve as a peer mentor to Employment Specialist staff, assisting with case staffing, problem-solving, and general guidance. The Career Counselor will also assist with training and orienting new Employment Specialist to help them learn their role and responsibilities. Specialized services under the ACCES-VR contract will also be provide by the Career Counselor, including both one-on-one (Career Exploration Assessment, Post-Secondary Exploration Assessment, Pre-Employment Transition Services) and group services (Work Readiness Training).

Full-time, 35 hours/week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master's Degree in a related field and at least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel in the Capital Region.

  • Familiarity with OPWDD’s Employment Training Program preferred but not required.

  • Experience as a teacher or educator preferred.

  • Computer skills and strong case management skills.

  • Must be flexible, independent, and adept at prioritizing job responsibilities.
