US Department of Energy Facility Systems Engineer in Carlsbad, New Mexico

The Department of Energy (DOE) - Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) works to provide safe, compliant and efficient characterization, transportation, and disposal of defense-related Transuranic (TRU) waste. Only TRU waste that meets the requirements of the Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) can be permanently emplaced in Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). In this role, you will serveas a CBFO Safety Systems Oversight Engineer (SSO), an on-site subject matter expert providing oversight of operating contractors safety systems for assigned facilities. You will provide planning, design, procurement, implementation, maintenance, and operational oversight of structures, systems, and components to ensure the work associated with these missions can be accomplished safely and efficiently. Your work is primarily focused on mechanical and electrical equipment; mining; systems; and management systems/administrative controls associated with EM nuclear facilities and credited safety systems. You will work closely with the contractor system engineering SMEs, facility operations staff, leadership, facility representatives, federal SMEs (e.g., fire protection, criticality safety, readiness review, nuclear safety, etc.), and other safety professionals to assure input is coordinated and executed to meet operational safety objectives.
