8th Avenue Food & Provisions is a growing organization made up of businesses that produce and sell quality products including pasta, peanut butter, granola, and fruit and nut trail mixes to retail, foodservice and ingredient customers. The company was formed in October 2018 through a combination of Post Holdings’ private brands businesses and is owned by Post Holdings and funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (“THL”), a private equity firm.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Lab Technician/Grain Assistant will support the Quality Assurance Department and Grain Quality Coordinator position. This position will develop skills to receive and grade grain to determine grade and quality through tests and evaluations on incoming samples of grain. This role is a valuable partner to Operations that is responsible for effectively grading and communicating quality issues to the parties involved. The Quality Assurance Grain Quality Coordinator Assistant is responsible for helping prepare samples to support customers and sales; conducting routine product evaluations such as cook tests and die measurements, communicating COA’s to customer, and developing skills to complete the multiple quality analysis tests and helping to monitor pest activity throughout the facility by checking pheromone and rodent traps on regular basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists Receiving and grading grain, takes samples and record/report results for Grain Receiver Loaders in the Agris (One Way) system. Assists in grading grain including durum wheat and flour for moisture, ash, protein, dockage, VOM, etc. to ensure product meets specifications. Assists with press and mill samples when needed. Prepare samples for customers and Sales. Conduct routine cooking of finished products. Maintain paperwork and documentation related to production and lab functions. Conduct routine measurements of each shape of finished goods. Communicate Certificates of Analysis of finished goods as required to customers. Check rodent traps, and pheromone traps on a weekly basis to help monitor pest activity throughout the facility. Proactively report any signs of infestations to your supervisor. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime and have flexibility in scheduling and ability to work different shifts as needed. Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution. Completion of in-house grain grading training program. Completion of in-house training program for other assigned duties. Previous experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in food related field. (Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, etc.) Experience in quality assurance testing. Experience in grading durum wheat. Experience in other QA departments, labs, or food plants. Work experience with DGPC. Knowledge of DGPC products and procedures.

Physical Requirements: Qualified candidates must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation: Must be able to crouch, kneel, and stoop 3+ hours per shift. Must be able to reach above shoulders 3+ hours per shift. Must be able to bend, sit, stand, and walk 6+ hours per shift. Must be able to balance 8+ hours per shift. Must be able climb and work off ladder 3+ hours per shift. Must be able to work in dusty environment 8+ hours per shift. Must be able to work in high heat/humidity 6+ hours per Must be able to push/pull for 6+ hours per shift. Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation and feel 8+ hours per shift. Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds 3+ hours per shift. Must be able to lift/carry 11 pounds to 34 pounds 6+ hours per shift. Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken or written word and distinguish object or equipment visually. Must be able to work 12-hour shifts if needed.
