Position Title: Tier II - Special Education Teacher Associate

Qualifications

:

  1. High school graduate or equivalency diploma

  2. Prior satisfactory work experience with children or youth preferred

  3. Evidence of mental and emotional maturity and stability

  4. Technology Skills

  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

Performance Responsibilities

:

  1. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.

  2. Works with students in a

supportive role under conditions determined by the instructional professional staff responsible for the students, but not as a substitute for or replacement of functions and duties of a teacher as established in the Code.

a. Enables and encourages students' independence.

b. Learns to effectively operate communication devices and other assistive technology required by students.

c. Assists with implementing students' Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans with fidelity.

d. Assists with implementing student' Individualized Health Care Plans, emergency plans and/or evacuation plans.

e. Assists with group instructional reinforcement, support students at teachers' direction, as needed.

f. Assists in providing feedback on student work.

g. Assists teacher in promoting a positive learning environment. Supports and maintains individualized behavior management programs.

h. Assists teacher with implementation of specific instructional requirements as indicated in the individual education plans for each student.

i. Assists with preparation of instructional materials as needed.

j. Accommodates materials under the teacher's direction.

k. Assists teacher with gathering data for reports and paperwork related functions as needed.

  1. Preschool Only: Assists students as needed, including but not limited to: lifting and carrying of students including on and off the bus; diapering; toilet training and assisting in the bathroom; feeding; and providing academic assistance.

  2. Assists in teacher and/or administrator in supervision of students, including, but not limited to, loading/unloading buses, hallways, lunchroom, on playground and in individualized settings.

  3. Participates in required professional development as designated by the District

a. Bloodborne Pathogens

b. Mandatory Reporter: Child and Adult

c. De-escalation

d. CPI and Restraint (determined by principal)

  1. Operates school equipment such as Chromebooks, copier, communication devices, etc.

  2. Required to attend 5 professional development days throughout the school year: 2 at the beginning of the school year and 3 as determined by the District during the school year.

  3. Demonstrates professionalism and maintains confidentiality.

  4. Assumes other duties as requested by the superintendent, building principal, or designee.
