University Housing - Residential Life

Job Summary

This position serves on a team of professionals charged with leading and implementing all University Housing disciplinary processes. The Program Directors are University level case coordinators, assist in the coordination of students of concern case management for Residential Life and Family and Graduate Housing, facilitate restorative practices to support the residential curricular model of education, and serve as members of the Residential Life Central Staff Team. These staff members ensure that all processes related to student discipline are enacted with ethical principles and a social justice approach.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Discipline, Safety, & Security Program Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to Residence Hall Director and Area Coordinator staff through staff training and coaching to effectively deal with and follow up on disciplinary or other incidents at the hall or area level.
  • Conduct investigations and hearings in response to alleged violation(s) of the University Student Code by individual students.
  • Investigate alleged violations of the Student Code that fall under the jurisdiction of the subcommittees of the Senate Committee on Student Discipline, including the Subcommittee on Sexual Misconduct, prepare any involved parties for a formal hearing where appropriate, and present the results of investigations directly to the faculty and student members of the subcommittees for adjudication.
  • Provide assistance in the direction and evaluation of the Residence Hall Directors and Area Coordinators in the area of conduct in their roles as University case coordinators.
  • Utilize the University of Illinois Police Department Security Staff in support of Residential Life Community Standards objective.
  • Engage in follow-up for mental health cases by working with hall staff to develop and track progress on plans of action.
  • Provide in person, periodic follow-up with students directly after critical incidents.
  • Coordinate the transfer of management responsibilities for critical incidents when a response begins during the workday and transitions to duty staff for follow up.
  • Serve in an advisory role to the appropriate Senate Subcommittee on Student Conduct or to University administrators during hearings.
  • Chair the University Housing Community Standards and Policy Review committee.
  • Serve as University Housing\'s representative on the Office of the Dean of Students of Concern Committee.
  • Assist in the coordination of University Housing\'s bias and intolerance response by enacting educational strategies as a result of complaints filed.
  • Coordinate mental health crisis response for University Housing residents.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Dean of Students, Disability Resources and Education Services, and Counseling Center related to students of concern and/or those involved in discipline and/or title IX investigations.
  • Participate year-round in a rotation of on-call coverage for crisis response back up to Residence Hall Directors, including during the academic year, university break periods for break housing, summer school, and conference season.
  • All University Housing staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.

Community Development

Serve as the co-advisor to the Restorative Practice and Community Program.

Co-lead restorative practice departmental initiatives.

Engage and assist with developing and d iving University Housing\'s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Oversee the University Housing safety education programs and security initiatives.

Create and implement lesson plans to achieve the goals and learning outcomes of the residential curriculum.

Conduct evaluation and assessment of curricular strategies.

Identify learning objectives specific to the learning goals of interpersonal competence and engaged citizenship for students who live in University Housing.

Educate residents, faculty, and staff regarding University and Housing policies and procedures.

Work closely with the University Housing Marketing staff to draft safety education related messages to University Housing residents and guests as needed.

Maintain positive working relationships with Residential Life, University Housing, the Office of Student Conflict Resolution and other staff within the University who contribute to the effectiveness of the educational disciplinary process in University Housing.
