Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Project Engineering Supervisor to join our Mining team in the Southwest USA, based out of one of our offices in Salt Lake City, UT, Chandler, AZ or Denver, CO. As a Project Engineering Supervisor, you will serve various clients as part of mining studies and/or detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) projects for surface and underground mining.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Build, supervise, and direct a team of project engineers in the planning and execution of project work including studies, detailed engineering, engineering support to procurement, and technical support during construction and commissioning.

  • Act as a technical lead or project engineering manager for projects.

  • Regularly interface with the Client on project technical issues, while ensuring the identification and socialization of value opportunities, risks and mitigation to the project team and/or Client as applicable.

  • Implementing, maintaining, evaluating, and adjusting engineering processes on projects. This includes confirmation that mandated quality control steps are being followed, including Stantec’s Prevention Through Design and Hazard/Constructability Review programs.

  • Owning, monitoring, and reporting on engineering budget, progress, managing to engineering/procurement/construction schedules, and driving change management processes as they relate to engineering and design.

  • Delivering the project’s engineering deliverables on schedule in accordance with corporate and project processes and standards, while ensuring that multi-disciplinary interfaces are correct and complete.

  • Provide and/or coordinate engineering involvement in procurement and construction work packages, including scopes of supply/work, technical bid evaluations, recommendations to award, vendor/contractor data review, and responses to submittals and RFIs.

  • Act as the technical lead for procurement supply packages to ensure packages are technically coordinated from conception to final installation.

  • Provide input, leadership and direction for the integration of engineering inputs into project cost estimates and execution schedules.

  • Support Stantec’s risk lead and/or client’s risk management programs.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A thorough understanding of mining engineering studies and execution projects of varying scale.

  • An understanding of engineering management, risk management, or cost engineering techniques as part of mining studies and engineering execution projects.

  • Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere including involvement in technical business development.

  • Demonstrated motivational and leadership skills and project engineering experience.

  • Strong mentoring skills and desire to encourage and coach junior staff.

  • Ability to perform and complete a variety of tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Professional Engineering license (or the ability to obtain a license) is preferred.

  • Experience with leading the production of engineering document and drawing packages, and a comprehensive understanding of associated quality and document control methods.

  • Experience supervising a team of engineers and designers.

  • Experience leading mining engineering studies and execution projects of varying scale.

  • 5-10 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining, with 3 or more years’ experience managing engineering/design teams working on major projects.
