Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Project Engineering Supervisor to join our Mining team in the Southwest USA, based out of one of our offices in Salt Lake City, UT, Chandler, AZ or Denver, CO. As a Project Engineering Supervisor, you will serve various clients as part of mining studies and/or detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) projects for surface and underground mining.
Your Key Responsibilities
Build, supervise, and direct a team of project engineers in the planning and execution of project work including studies, detailed engineering, engineering support to procurement, and technical support during construction and commissioning.
Act as a technical lead or project engineering manager for projects.
Regularly interface with the Client on project technical issues, while ensuring the identification and socialization of value opportunities, risks and mitigation to the project team and/or Client as applicable.
Implementing, maintaining, evaluating, and adjusting engineering processes on projects. This includes confirmation that mandated quality control steps are being followed, including Stantec’s Prevention Through Design and Hazard/Constructability Review programs.
Owning, monitoring, and reporting on engineering budget, progress, managing to engineering/procurement/construction schedules, and driving change management processes as they relate to engineering and design.
Delivering the project’s engineering deliverables on schedule in accordance with corporate and project processes and standards, while ensuring that multi-disciplinary interfaces are correct and complete.
Provide and/or coordinate engineering involvement in procurement and construction work packages, including scopes of supply/work, technical bid evaluations, recommendations to award, vendor/contractor data review, and responses to submittals and RFIs.
Act as the technical lead for procurement supply packages to ensure packages are technically coordinated from conception to final installation.
Provide input, leadership and direction for the integration of engineering inputs into project cost estimates and execution schedules.
Support Stantec’s risk lead and/or client’s risk management programs.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
A thorough understanding of mining engineering studies and execution projects of varying scale.
An understanding of engineering management, risk management, or cost engineering techniques as part of mining studies and engineering execution projects.
Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere including involvement in technical business development.
Demonstrated motivational and leadership skills and project engineering experience.
Strong mentoring skills and desire to encourage and coach junior staff.
Ability to perform and complete a variety of tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices as needed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
Professional Engineering license (or the ability to obtain a license) is preferred.
Experience with leading the production of engineering document and drawing packages, and a comprehensive understanding of associated quality and document control methods.
Experience supervising a team of engineers and designers.
Experience leading mining engineering studies and execution projects of varying scale.
5-10 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining, with 3 or more years’ experience managing engineering/design teams working on major projects.
