Job Description:

Job Title: Ice Manufacturing/Sanitation Technician

Department: Perishable/Grocery Warehouse

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

Responsible for maintaining the environmental cleanliness (to food grade) of the ice plant and ensuring that manufacturing and processing areas are sanitized on a schedule. Also responsible for assisting with pest control, sanitation procedures, as well as safety, training, compliance and record keeping.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager; Maintenance Department Manager

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and minimizes environmental risks to products and facilities, (a) Reduces risk of suspected environmental contaminants in ice manufacturing, production systems and materials (b) Must possess the ability to follow food grade sanitation procedures (c) assist Quality Assurance Manager with asbestos, lead paint, microbial, biological and other hazardous material removal or abatement. 30%

  • Responsible for delivering environmental control activities within the ice plant. Responsible for reducing the risk of contaminated products and systems during production, storage and transportation. 30%

  • Responsible for effective use of cleaning, pest management chemicals and emergency environmental remediation response and containment efforts. 10%

  • Follows employee training for GMP, HACCP, HAZ-Mat and company guidelines, policies and procedures. 10%

  • Responsible for communicating, tracking and documenting in accordance with established procedures. 10%

  • Assist Quality Assurance Manager with special projects as needed. 10%

  • Reports to work when scheduled and works the expected number of hours.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: (These are considered occasional in nature)

  • Attends and participates in company and industry meetings.

  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Position must possess the ability to have a flexible schedule to meet production demands.

  • Must have hands on maintenance skills and the ability to carry out and physically participate in all activities necessary for the cleaning and sanitation of the ice plant.

  • Must understand and comply with company, state and federal regulations.

  • Possesses the ability to understand technical manuals; proper chemical usage; and have frequent contact with people.

  • Must be able to effectively complete schedules sanitation activities.

  • Must be able to handle necessary paperwork and documentation efficiently.

Education and Experience

0 to 1 years of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive lifting and heavy work; exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and 25-50 pounds of force frequently and/ or 10-20 pounds of force consistently to lift and place objects. Will repetitively lift boxes of variety of shapes and weights.

  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less up to 20 feet or more with or without correction; color vision; depth perception and field of vision.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking and hearing.

Working Conditions:

The duties for this position are normally conducted in a warehouse environment. Must handle multiple tasks in a day. There is possible exposure to chemicals, dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness and equipment movement hazards.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Telephone, intercom, computers, carts, ladders, calculator, warehouse equipment and sanitation equipment and chemicals.
