CBC P.E.I. is looking for a dynamic Producer/Host for Mainstreet P.E.I.

Your role

Mainstreet P.E.I. is your companion on your commute home and into the evening. It aims to entertain and inform with a recap of what you need to know about what is happening in P.E.I.

It is live and responsive. It challenges and celebrates our communities. It sparks conversations

You are passionate about current affairs storytelling, know P.E.I. and are committed to highlighting stories with a wide range of perspectives. You are curious about different cultures and communities and open to a range of ideas and opinions.

You are an experienced on-air presenter and are comfortable in a live environment. You are an active listener who seeks clarity and understanding, anticipating what the audience needs and wants to know. You uphold and demonstrate the highest of CBC’s journalistic standards and practices on the program.

This is a daily two-hour radio show, from 4 to 6 p.m. each day. You are a self-starter with exceptional time management skills. You can work within tight deadlines and are always planning ahead.

You can work independently on the show you host and produce, while also forging strong relationships with other programs and staff and independent contributors.

You are connected to the broader newsroom, and are familiar with digital and video storytelling.

Key Tasks:

  • Work to ensure the program mandate is always reflected in the show.

  • Conduct live and taped interviews.

  • Write and perform scripts.

  • Assign associate producer.

  • Edit scripts, ensuring they are journalistically sound.

  • Perform a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material.

  • Conceives of, and produces original stories and concepts.

  • Build relationships with a diverse cross-section of key community leaders in our many communities to enhance our understanding of the province and to

  • increase the range of voices and perspectives on the program.

  • Moderate and participate in public events.

  • Create and deliver digital-focused content to support the radio program.

Qualifications:

Your profile

  • University degree or equivalent experience.

  • At least five years of comparable and relevant experience.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Competencies:

  • Engaging, curious, and spontaneous on-air.

  • Wide range of genuine interests, knowledge and insight, reflecting curiosity inmany current affairs topics, and an ability to make them relevant to existing andnew audiences.

  • Widely-read, knowledgeable and nuanced thinker.

  • Strong writer.

  • Exemplary journalistic skills, demonstrated through interviewing critical thinking and innovative storytelling.

  • Openness to diverse perspectives and ideas, and differing points of view, is critical.

  • You bring unique personal experiences and perspectives to the show.

  • Embrace editorial leadership role.

  • Possess strong technical skills, including field recording and audio editing.

  • Knowledge of and creative ideas around the use of social media and digital platforms to connect with and grow audiences.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of, and/or connection to, underrepresented communities across P.E.I. is key.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity with the ability to promote the values of diversity and an inclusive work culture.

  • Ability to function independently.

  • Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure.

  • Ability to build relationships and contacts inside and outside CBC.

  • Broad knowledge of P.E.I.

  • Able to engage in public forums and events across the region as required.
