The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Broadcast Technologist to support our Radio & TV studios, Digital platforms, content creation technology & workflow, and the Production & Editorial staff with technical related requirements in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Everyday your hands-on knowledge, your growing expertise, your problem-solving skills and your ability to translate technical issues will be called into play as you work closely with clients facing issues with content creation, backend systems, studios and control rooms. Your patience, sense of urgency and responsiveness will ensure that our content is prepped, scheduled and on the air or digitally available.

Within the area of assignment, and according to the specified requirements, installs, sets up, modifies, repairs and maintains desktop equipment, telephony, smartphones, servers, broadcast equipment, facilities and systems. Provides desktop support for a wide variety of software applications. Creative problem solving is required in applying knowledge and theory of current technologies to solve problems, to modify existing methods and techniques, or to develop new ones. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC or industry standards but there is latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative. Has responsibility for accuracy and quality of work. Consultation with technicians and other personnel requires comprehension of technical concepts and confirmation that they are understood. There are often requirements to work in an unsupervised environment. Work is carried out in an efficient manner which is courteous, promotes constructive and collaborative working relationships, and which contributes effort and ideas to the team to achieve objectives. Establishes and maintains internal and external contacts to secure information or make necessary arrangements for the provision of facilities.

This role requires full time on site presence.

What you bring as a Senior Broadcast Technologist:

  • Must possess at least a two-year Post-Secondary technologist diploma from a recognized college in an electronic discipline or its equivalent as determined by the Corporation

  • Must have practical and relevant experience with a general understanding and knowledge of computers, networking, IP infrastructure and maintenance of equipment, systems and relevant software technologies. You are familiar with Windows Server Systems, MacOS and Linux

  • Must have experience supporting production content workflow and have an understanding of what is involved in the creation of live programming for radio and TV. A solid understanding of digital video and digital audio technology and media file transcode systems

  • Understanding of AVID (or similar) video production systems: servers and clients (Media Central, Media Composer), DALET (or similar) audio production systems: servers and clients (asset)

  • Communication skills. You are skilled at communicating effectively with internal partners, relaying your opinions with sensitivity. You know how to listen and you understand perspectives. You can expertly analyze and synthesize information and document technical specifications

  • Positive, collaborative attitude. You can work in a stressful and demanding environment of a production centre, in carrying out its duties effectively under tight deadlines while providing quality work and maintaining a professional and positive attitude

  • Relationship building finesse. You are empathetic and patient. You understand the user perspective and your priority is providing rapid, stable solutions and support. You are guided by a sense of urgency. You can nurture strong two-way relationships with peers, partners, clients, staff, senior managers and vendors

  • Analytical skills and creativity. You can think through issues and innovate solutions. You are proactive and creative in your approach. You are a problem-solver, a researcher and a detail-oriented planner

  • Flexibility. You are willing to work as part of an on-site rotating shift (day, evening and occasional weekends)

  • Must be able to travel, possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company

  • Understanding of the Google suite of tools (asset).
