Salary: Competitive

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience managing Oracle and SQL Server databases. Experience supporting Maximo, GoldenGate, and AWS is highly preferred.

Job Summary

  1. Participates in the following tasks related to databases: database creation, patching, backups, restores/refreshes, schema changes, tablespace management, database tuning, disaster recovery and general database maintenance.

  2. Leverage advanced knowledge in multiple technologies; collaborate with peers to analyze performance of components and systems to troubleshoot, evaluate performance, and determine capacity. Uses root cause analysis, corrective actions, tactical planning and strategic planning to correct problems, provide improved response and project long term investments required to provide sufficient support for IT Services to the business.

  3. Maintain the database environment to assure compliance with configurations, patches, approved designs and SOX controls. Participates in the change management process to properly execute change with minimum impact to the services provided.

  4. Develops standards and guidelines that align with industry best practices for operations and maintenances of the database environment.

  5. Participate with IT peers as needed to properly support the IT infrastructure on a 24x7 basis including on-call duties, shift work, and emergency support can be required including travel to various locations away from the employee’s primary work site.

  6. Stays in compliance with policies, procedures, and associated training for managing infrastructure, resources, administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.

  7. Other duties include collaborating with team members to balance workload, participation in audits, security reviews, incident investigation, presentation for TVA at professional events, and various other duties.

  9. May serve as a work leader, in a non-supervisory leadership position, having job-related responsibilities to lead project assignments in a broad or specialty area.

  10. Research and evaluate new tools, methods, development tools, and products that relate to data management.

    Supervision Received

    Employee will work at the direction of their manager with technical oversight and guidance from SME or team leads. Assignments are clearly and specifically given and may include project leadership, assigned work via various work documents, and working under team leads for specific projects where the team lead could be from outside the employees work group. Work is reviewed for sound professional judgment.

    Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)

  • Knowledge and execution of general relational database concepts

  • Proficiency in setting up backup and recovery strategies

  • Ability to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve live database systems issues

  • Proficient in databases creation, data refreshes, Schema object changes, and tablespace management

  • Experience in SQL and Oracle database performance tuning

  • Ability to work with or lead a cross-functional team of IT professionals

  • Must have an in-depth working knowledge of Disaster Recovery and High Availability Systems and/or Critical Infrastructure

  • Understanding of the entire software development life cycle.

  • Good data analysis and data manipulation skills.

  • Good skills in query writing, stored procedures, and views.

  • Knowledge of related infrastructure, tools, and services in support of databases such as SANs, backup technologies, database administration, and business continuity

  • Knowledge of and experience supporting ERP applications

  • Working knowledge and expertise of database technologies such as MongoDB, Cloud Data Platforms, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and/or Microsoft SQL Server

  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems

    Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

BA/BS degree in computer science, or comparable experience in a related field supporting tools related to those listed in the skills and proficiencies section. Experience in creating databases, modifying schema objects, and managing tablespaces is desired. Experience with an RDBMS is desired. Database certifications are preferred. Previous experience working in a medium to large team environment. Comprehensive experience in supporting the operation of large production database systems. General understanding of business environment, i.e., budgeting, life-cycle costing, customer support. Strong facilitation, negotiation, and intervention skills. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to challenge and influence teams in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while dealing diplomatically with internal and external partners. Must be able and willing to assume on-call rotational assignments which may include 24 hour on 7-day per week availability. Travel may be required to carry out project work. Must be able to maintain elevated clearances such as but not limited to NERC/CIP, Sensitive, and/or Nuclear Fitness for Duty.
