Role Definition

Caterpillar is looking to hire a product development lead for Rock Drill Tools, such as Tricone Bits and Down-The-Hole (DTH) Hammers & bits. The candidate should be able to collaborate with cross-functional teams such as procurement, supply chain, marketing, commercial etc. to make engineering decisions. The candidate must be willing to work on a wide variety of product development tasks such as design, simulation, testing, manufacturing, supplier collaboration, DFMEA etc.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical leadership to the Rock Tools engineering team

  • Researching new materials and competitive products. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.

  • Develop products based on engineering tools, simulation, failure analysis, test data, voice of customer etc.

  • Come up with innovative ideas to improve, differentiate and accelerate product designs & development.

  • Assisting buyers with supplier development and collaborating with suppliers for manufacturing reviews.

  • Work on 3-5 concurrent projects without losing productivity and overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.

  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating them into detailed design documents.

  • Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.

  • Transform test data/simulation data in a format that enables data-driven decision-making.Degree Requirement

  • B.E. / B. Tech. in Mechanical/Metallurgical engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited engineering college with 9+ years of product development experience

  • M.E. / M. Tech in Mechanical/Metallurgical engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited engineering college with 8+ years of product development experienceSkill Descriptors

  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features (Tricone Bits and DTH hammers); ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

  • Builds CAD models with basic materials.

  • Has familiarity with basic simulations (Structural, Fatigue, design calculations etc.)

  • Communicates with professionals to understand various requirements of product design.

  • Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.

  • Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.

  • Assists in building a complex prototype of product.

Relocation is available for this position.
