Job Overview:
The Principal Electrical Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related team. They exchange ideas and information relating to Electrical Design effectively. The Principal Electrical Designer may work autonomously within established Electrical Design procedures and practices. They act as a lead, coordinating the work of others. They propose improvements to processes and methods within the Electrical Design discipline.

Support Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to) the following:
construction
Function as electrical design project lead or electrical task lead if required
Become familiar with the project contract, scope of work, basis of design, specifications, and schedule
Become fully familiar with the project contract, scope of work, basis of design, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues
Report to and coordinate with electrical design, engineering leads, and electrical design manager
Supervise electrical designers (if project design lead) and coordinate with the lead electrical engineer
Maintain close coordination with other discipline designers and engineers. Ensure timely input to other disciplines and also expedite inputs from other disciplines.
Carefully evaluate, communicate, and manage change with full awareness of project impact
Assume responsibility for schedule, quantity, and quality of project deliverables
Ensure quality of deliverables / physical design through robust checking process
Perform cold eye / SME review for other projects
Provide support for vendor packages, including (but not limited to) the following:
Create and issue required MTO for vendor package interfaces
Create all design drawings to allow the interface to vendor packages with the remainder of the facility including I&CS
Perform design review of supplier documents for electrical and non-electrical packages
Provide support for the Inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of electrical equipment, motors, and associated skids
Provide Site Support, including (but not limited to) the following:
Assist electrical lead engineer in leading on-site technical design support for Construction personnel
Assist in managing all site design issues and coordinate with office personnel to resolve issues as needed, either from engineering office or from fabrication yard
Apply testing procedures and provide technical support and supervision for Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of electrical equipment
Implement procedures and provide detailed technical support for pre-commissioning, energization, commissioning, and start-up, as required by the project
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Minimum 18 years of detailed electrical design experience, including 8 years in the oil & gas industry on EPC projects
Detailed knowledge of design techniques, sequence of deliverables, and schedules · Working knowledge of the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and ANSI
Strong Knowledge of Electrical Bulks and installation design
Proven project coordination and execution skills in the delivery of completed project design deliverables
In-depth technical knowledge of the detailed design process involving large-cap (>$500 million) EPC Projects
Experience with the utilization of MOPEX execution for large-cap EPC projects
Proven experience with 3D modeling tools (SP3D/E3D/PDMS), AutoCAD/Microstation, and MS Office Suite including Excel and Word
Experience with Dialux / Chalmlite for lighting calculation and Roxtec Tool for MCT sizing is preferred
Prefer prior design lead experience on EPC projects for petrochemical or oil & gas projects
Prefer experience at the site during construction and commissioning
