Job Description
Lead Medical Assistant
University Health Services and Primary Care Sports Medicine, part of the Division of Student Affairs, is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team. This position plays a critical role in providing exceptional care and support to our students, ensuring their health and well-being in alignment with the university’s commitment to holistic student development. The ideal candidate will excel in both clinical and administrative functions, fostering a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities include:
Administrative Functions
Manage front desk operations, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and assisting walk-in patients.
Support billing processes by verifying insurance, facilitating claims, and providing guidance on payment-related inquiries.
Oversee office supply inventory and ensure the clinic is well-stocked and organized.
Maintain accurate and confidential student medical records per FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
Assist with immunization compliance duties in coordination with the medical informatics administrator.
Clinical Functions
Record vital signs and patient information in medical records, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Assist medical staff during patient examinations, specimen collection, and minor procedures.
Perform basic treatments and prepare students for medical consultations.
Sterilize instruments, maintain equipment, and ensure a safe, hygienic environment.
Support inventory management and ordering of medical supplies to maintain operational readiness.
Communication and Coordination
Respond to inquiries from students, parents, and campus partners, providing clear and courteous guidance.
Facilitate referrals for off-campus specialists and coordinate with external healthcare providers.
Contribute to health services initiatives, special events, and outreach efforts to promote student wellness.
Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.
Hiring Range: $24.92/hr to $31.15/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
High School Diploma required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a professional medical office environment, including working with electronic medical records.
Demonstrated proficiency in medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
Experience in a university setting is preferred.
Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
Exceptional organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Proven interpersonal skills and sensitivity in handling confidential material.
Commitment to working with diverse populations and creating an inclusive environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends to support departmental initiatives.
Physical capability to perform the duties required, including standing, walking, and light lifting.
