The University of Chicago\'s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care is searching for full-time faculty members at any rank. The appointees will provide clinical coverage for the Comer Children\'s Hospital PICU and Pediatric Sedation Service. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.
The Section of Pediatric Critical Care has 16 full-time faculty members, a fully accredited fellowship program, and a 30 bed PICU. The Section also runs the Pediatric Sedation and Palliative Care Services. Faculty members are actively involved in research, quality improvement, and medical education initiatives. The PICU has approximately 1,600 annual admissions with continued annual increase in volume over the past 5 years. The University of Chicago is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago, and the hospital is designated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a national honor that recognizes nursing excellence. Additionally, we are an Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Center of Excellence at the Gold Level.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, 3) be eligible for permanent medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 4) have cared for complex and critically ill infants, children, and adolescents during the past five years.
We especially welcome applicants with an academic interest and/or potential to conduct research-based programs in a field relevant to neurocritical care, resuscitation and simulation, informatics, quality improvement science and scholarship, and/or policy-based interventions.
