Job overview and responsibilities

The Facilities Engineer provides operational integrity of the data center electrical, mechanical and fire safety systems. Ensures that data center problems are identified and resolved quickly and with quality. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance in accordance with established schedule and in compliance with all codes, industry, and company standards. Responsible to develop infrastructure improvements and serve as domain expert in assigned area or specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical, mechanical and facilities related interior and exterior infrastructure).

  • Daily checks to determine operational functionality of hyper scale electrical and mechanical systems and NFPA70e and OSHA Regulations that pertain to data centers and triage failing systems, moving such systems off-line and implement redundant systems as needed

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other infrastructure systems

  • Monitoring of all automation systems of the building

  • Responsible for the safe, professional, and operationally sound manipulation of electrical

  • Ensure the MOPS that support systems in high-availability, high-risk, or high-reliability environments are built, reviewed and applied to support the manipulation of the IT production loads

  • Responds quickly to emergency situations that impact the operations and coordinates with other critical facilities professionals to perform corrective repairs

  • Ability to read and interpret fire system, electrical system and mechanical system drawings and schematics to execute system triage as needed

  • Complete documentation which follows all federal, state, and local regulations for operations and work safety to include knowledge of safety procedures and equipment, procedures, and established techniques

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Well versed in NEC and NFPA-75 rules and regulations

  • 2+ years of experience in a related field

  • Prior building automation experience

  • Data Center Facilities systems experience

  • Experience working in facilities environment with exposure to electrical, mechanical, plumbing and refrigeration type equipment

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach and lift as required, on a continuous basis, with items that can weigh up to 75lbs

  • Ability to work extended hours within a Data Center Environment and typically within a heat range of 60 degrees Fahrenheit upwards of 110 degrees Fahrenheit while following OSHA driven work rest cycles

  • Requires ability to climb and use a ladder varying in types from A-Frame to extension ladders at various heights

  • Understands the implications of work to make sound recommendations for solutions

  • Consistently demonstrate and follow established procedures for assigned activities and collaborate cross functional with teams as well as vendors and suppliers to achieve goals

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

Preferred

  • Associate degree or 2 years of relevant work experience in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • 4+ years of experience in a related field
