What the day will look like
As a Senior Proposal Manager, you will report directly to the Commercial Risk Manager. The Senior Proposal Manager will work on bids for our Aon Commercial Risk Solutions business units. You will write, revise, proofread, and finalize proposals in response to RFPs (requests for proposals) and presentations specific to client situations. The bids will focus on our risk and construction lines of business.
The Senior Proposal Manager will lead, plan, develop, produce, and deliver proposals and presentations required by client solicitations. You will provide hands-on management of the entire full-cycle project development processes, including but not limited to: leading kick-off meetings, assist in the development of strategy, writing customized content, monitoring timelines, editing documents, working on presentation deliverables, and ensuring compliance with the Aon brand.
The Senior Proposal Manager will work with colleagues across Aon Commercial Risk Solutions, as well as product and industry practice sales teams, subject matter experts, and designers, to ensure that proposals and presentations are compliant to client bid requirements and reflect the best technical, management, and support offerings that Aon can make in response to RFPs.
The Senior Proposal Manager is expected to assist in achieving national goals for new business and client retention via execution of the core responsibilities of the position, which focus on responding to offensive (new business) and defensive (retention/jeopardy) requests for proposal (RFPs) and presentations.
Essential job functions
Responsible for handling and providing strategic direction on the firm's largest and most complex proposals and presentations, often partnering with senior and executive leaders.
Display a high-level working knowledge of Aon’s risk solutions
Provide strategic direction for the preparation of proposals and presentations (including content editing) to achieve a response that is in line with the defined approach
Work with mid- to large-size consultant teams and subject matter experts to craft customized content
Partner with the lead designer to ensure proposals and presentations are visually impactful; assist teams with custom graphic creation and drafting initial presentations
Lead presentation brainstorming and development sessions, serving as the presentation expert on the firm's largest opportunities
Assistance in developing winning strategies for finalist presentations
Acts independently, with minimal/occasional direction from the manager
Is responsible for largest projects, complex projects across both public and private sector providing strategic guidance, and mentors junior team members.
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth assessment
Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise
Professionally handle challenging situations (including when leadership is involved) without harming relationships
Identify trends and engage in process improvement efforts centrally and nationally where vital
Supporting the manager in operational duties, often as a backup
Skills and experience that will lead to success
8+ years of bid management or industry experience required, specific to insurance and brokerage proven experience preferred
Demonstrable background in the development of custom strategic content (leveraging strategic messaging/value propositions) and strong editing skills required
Ability to manage multiple complex bids simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, meeting all deadlines
Significant experience providing strategic direction to account teams for client presentation deliverables in partnership with a designer
Strong professional communications skills via verbal and written (correspondence) are essential
Ability to learn quickly and show flexibility to adapt in a growing group, working both independently and with a team mentality (required)
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
Use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, related fields in communication or other areas
Will consider relevant experience
Technical:
Advanced knowledge of proposal management software (SharePoint, Loopio, monday.com) strongly preferred
Advanced Word, PowerPoint, and Excel knowledge required

Pay Transparency Laws
The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $95,000 to $100,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.
This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
